Question Check engine light reasons -- S5

What are the different possible reasons for a check engine light? I changed the O2 sensor and the warning light cluster but still no luck. It comes on after the engine starts and stays on permanently. I did an engine swap with a low mileage car of the same year. The car runs perfectly.

Any ideas? Thanks.

It's easy to say that but have you ever seen a list in there? I have the FSM and have searched it, maybe I've missed the reference. If anyone knows a section/page number I would greatly appreciate it.

Inflatablepets, Thank you. Do you think they could have included a useable table of contents in the FSM?

DerangedHermit, I had found that link via search but the link doesn't work.

Thanks for the help all.

Worked last night, this morning it doesn't. I'll assume their site is down. Go ahead and try it again sometime.
