check engine light just checked codes what now
just checked the engine light signal, says this
14 1 Long & 4 short Atmospheric Pressure Sensor (in ECU) Open or Short Circuit or ECU Malfunction .ECU
says replace the ecu.... so im wondering if the one in the back of the parts car will work, dont trust it, wondering if maybe u have one laying around u might be intrested in a trade4 or something. also wondering if this would cause the car to idle viloently, when i say violently im saying everymorning when i crack it to let it warm up and run, the idle keeps getting more and more choppy. i dunno, maybe u should just come over here and help by listening to it and watching me check the codes. basicly im just asking if this error code would account for the car acting the way it does, and if so, would replacing the ecu fix this problem?
ok so i just swapped ecu's w/ the one plugged into the parts car. crank her up and im still throwing a code. checked the code and its
1 Long & 2 Short Throttle Sensor (Full Range) Open or Short Circuit .Throttle Sensor Connector X X X
.Wiring from Throttle Sensor to ECU
so i crank it up and when the gas is pressed down to rev it up the check engine light goes off, but as soon as i let off the light comes back on.... so are they talking about the throttle possition sensor, or the tps? if so ill find it and change it from the parts car real quick and cross my fingers.
edit:
oh yeah, parts motor is an 86, mine is a 91, are both tps's interchangable or am i gunna have to hit up my buddy for one.

No, they're not interchangable. And I'm guessing you used a spare S5 ECU? Since a 86 ECU wouldn't even plug in to a 91... Chances are it just needs to be adjusted.

well should i just do a search on here for tps adjustment on a 91, and yeah the ecu that came out of the parts car is original, owner blew motor in it, mech put in an 86 motor, couldnt understand why the harness didnt work, i got the car cause he's an idiot, motor will be up for sale in here as soon as im done getting what i need of it. i still need to know how to adjust the tps, if that will take care of the check engine light. i need to know if the tps being out of adjustment would cause the idle to be rough, almost as if it is misfiring, but with an exhaust leak everything seems amplified. also when rpm's are held at a constant the idle 'skips' or misfires, hard to tell, thats why i said choppy earlier. any answers would be nice, and recommendations would be even better.
so ive just spent the past hour and a half checking on how to adjust the tps...yeah no such luck, just a lot of ppl, with the similar problems i have, and the same ppl saying search the forums for how to's.... anyone care to take the time to explain?

This is not the only way to set the TPS, but it works for me:
Unplug the TPS connector.
Clip a cheap analog (needle type) VOM on the orange & black pins.
Set it to the 1K scale.
Hold off the throttle & work the short range TPS plunger in & out.
You should see a smooth sweep from ~0 to ~5K ohms.
Any bad spots or drop outs in the stroke - it's bad & will give fuel cuts at part throttle.
(Before you toss it, try spray contact cleaner between the sleeve & plunger.)
- Then set it:
Find the fast idle (warm-up) cam & push it back so the throttle sits on the hard idle stop.
Adjust the setting to 1K ohms.
While holding off the fast idle cam, open & close the throttle a few times to see that the 1K setting repeats.

ok, well now not only am i getting a tps code but also
3 Long Solenoid Valve (Split Air Bypass) Open or Short Circuit .Solenoid Valve Connector X X X
.Wiring from Solenoid Valve to ECU
.Solenoid Valve Continuity
and
3 Long & 3 Short Solenoid Valve (Port Air Bypass) Open or Short Circuit .Solenoid Valve Connector X X X
.Wiring from Solenoid Valve to ECU
.Solenoid Valve Continuity
can anyone tell me what this is, and how to correct, come on now, thought u guys were ******* geniouses when it came to this ****....
