Check Engine Light.. Confused...??

Well 2 days ago i was going to work and one of my coolent hoses going into the car for the heater ripped and spilled coolent all over the road.
I caught it very early and pulled over in a parking lot that i was right beside.
My temp guage didn't move at all and no warning lights came on in the idiot dash.
The rip was close enough to the end of the hose that i ripped it off, put it back on and added some water that a friend brought.
I drove it home and parked it untill i bought a new hose.

Today I went and replaced the hose and filled the rad up with some fresh coolent and water(50/50mix). I let it idle a bit with the cap off to get some air out, then took her for a spin.
When i got in the car to go drive around the block i noticed the "check engine light" was on. I figured ok, it must have something to do with the hose comming off. I unplugged the battery, waited 5 mins and hooked it back up.
Went to start the car and check engine light is still on.

I let it warm up to temp and seemed to be running fine other then the low ~500RPM which it always has been doing since i bought the car.
It had perfect oil pressure and everything seemed to be fine. Reved fine both in neutral and normal driving. When i took it for a spin it felt perfectly fine other than the check engine light on the dash.

So i came home and looked up how to check the engine codes on the website here and found a good page.
It says "find the single green wire in the wiring harness just in front of the left front suspension tower, near the front ignition coil. "
I went out and looked and the only one i could find was infront of the passenger side shock tower close to the pressure sensor i believe. Is this the correct green wire?

Then it says "Ground the connector on this wire (the wire will be hanging free, without its connector hooked to another wire) on the chassis, using a jumper wire, etc. "
All i have laying around is speaker wire. Will this work? If not can i go and buy something at Canadian Tire or something?

Just wondering if you guys could explain or better yet have any pictures of this green wire?
Or possably have any clue as to why my check engine light is on?
Also is it safe to be driving around my car with this light on?
Would anyone in the Calgary area be willing to give me a hand? I'm a student right now and really cannot afford to be paying Mazda $100 just to see what code is comming up.

Thanks

Oh yes this is a 1990 GXL.

ok dude , i can help i was just in the same boat. kinda.. you can use speaker wire. what you have to do is find the single green terminal on the drivers side of the car in the very front. next to the leading coil. actually right between the headlight and the coil. it might be tucked down there some where .. just give it a look see. what i did was i had a spare peice of i think 18 gauge wire. i put a male end connector on one end a alligator clip on the other end. so that way i get a good connection. put if speaker wire is all you have that will work to. just twist up some bare wire . wedge it in the end of the terminal. and put the other end on the negative battery terminal. go back inside turn your car to accessory. i dont think you have to start it. and watch the light. a solid light means 10 and quick flash means 1 . so if you get a solid light followed by 3 quick flashes this means code 13. i believe the codes are put out in smallest number code to largest. now if you get 2 solid lights that means 10 +10 = 20 . and so on .. there is a site, i think fc3spro.com has it or one of those sites has the entire code listing .. also try iluvmyrx7.com they have the mazda manual . they have in there somewhere to .. goodluck !@

hahahahh boo ya. i was looking on another post about dashpot adjustament and they had this site up there ,, this has the code listing for 89-91 here ya go dude
