Check Engine light
find the single green connector near your battery, in the engine bay. it should not have anything plugged into it. connect that to the negative post of the battery. turn key on. check engine light will flash. search the faq for FSM to get the codes list.
Wow thanks for that guys, I thought my only options for checking the codes were to either buy an expensive computer reader, or to bite the bullet and take the car to mazda for them to do it (neither option was particularly attractive to me
)
so thanks again!!
