check engine light - is this limp mode?

I was driving my car, had it running strong and smooth. Then the check engine light came on and the car still ran smooth but with NO power at all :[ any ideas?
is this "limp mode" if so, can I do away with the OMP and premix? is there a way to "trick" the computer into bypassing limp mode or do I HAVE to run an omp even if I do premix?

I'm not an S5 pro, but I don't think anyone yet has been able to design something electrical/ electronic that can physically replace the OMP for the ECU to function normally...

Most guys just leave it hooked up to the harness, and hang it somewhere off to the side, I think...
