How much you need depends on how much you're doing. As emac stated, get 20 ft, that's if you're going to redo ALL the vac lines, otherwise it'd be a waste. As for me, I got by with only 4 ft of hose, that's because I removed all my emissions and emissions-related vacuum hoses, and re-did all the necessary lines like PCV, FPR, etc.

goto DIY

Don't settle for that auto part store silicone dress up kit crap. They will turn into a hard brittle platic type material after a month or so.

I got mine through hose techniques, i just bought hose by the foot though. It was much cheaper than their "kit". It's good quality and has thick walls compared to parts store hose i've seen.

Silicone won't melt, I'd be more worried about it getting in contact with oil over a prolonged period of time and deteriorating. I still think it will last significantly longer than rubber hose though.

If you really have some cash to burn you can get viton hose which is both oil and temperature resistant from mcmaster carr (www.mcmaster.com) but it will run you about $12 a foot.

The only thing is silicone does not like oil running thru it.

http://www.hightempsilicone.com/cate...cuumhoseviton/ Viton cost a little more but you won't have to worry about replacing it. Best stuff in my opinion and well worth the money spent. They also make high quality silicone hoses also.

I've got a question, kinda on topic: Does anyone know where to get silicon vacuum nipples? I use the regular black rubber nipples but those get old and split and leak. Does anyone make silicon ones?
-John

And since we're on the subject, I read this on the 3rd Gen forums a while back and found it very informative.

I've been running RRE's silicon on my TII for over 6 months now. No discoloration or hardening at all.

I've been running hosetechniques silicone hoses for almost 2 years no problems. I've gotten about every type of fluid on them and no ill effects. They can also take the heat laying on the turbo as well.

Viton is overpriced and not necessary IMO. Mostly the FD guys talk about and use that stuff, but they got the money for it normally and the higher temps as well.
