Changed Plugs/Wires........ Now wierd problem..

Job: Change plugs/wires/thersostat/rad cap
Car: 1991 Savanna Rx7 GTX (JDM)
Problem: Timing and/or fuel..? Idle ok, but under load car stutters at all rmps. Also the exhaust note is differant than before, and the exhaust smells stronger.

So heres what the ignition system looked like when we started. Clearly wrong.. but the car ran exellent in this configuration.

And heres how we installed it... Clearly the Right way. Now the car runs poorly at all rpm's, expecialy under load.

I have no clue how the car ran so good in the wrong configuration, it ran perfectly...????

Also i nodiced a wierd electrical sounds comming from this area... There is also a vibration that seems to be comming from those connections..

Please if anybody can help..... I would really appreciate it.

The only solution i can think of is setting up the plugs like it was before.. but that makes absolutely no sense..

Thanks in advance,

Ben

well what kind of wires are you running? If you are running anything other then NGK or stock then there is going to be a problem i tried to use some aftermarket wires and i kept on always flooding my engine then changed back and then it started fine every time!! so it is proly the brand and dont use anything other the NGK.

I used the stock OEM NGK spark plug wired, and stock NGK BUR9EQ for the trailing/ stock NGK BUR7EQ for the leading spark plugs.

I would just double check to make sure u have them that way OR make sure that your coils are not switched in position.. the coils should have T1 and T2 on them mabe they were backwards because the coils are backward on yoru car?

put them back the other way once and see

like I am saying are u sure your coils are in the right spot and not swapped around?

look at the T1 and T2 on the coil and see if they are in the right spot..

I would still switch them around and see maybe your car is just wierd.. but highly doubtfull!

it wont hurt the car no as long as it is running right

Check the timing with a timing light, you'll probably find the timing is correct when the trailing coils are swapped. This is because the crank angle sensor has been improperly installed. The leading coils fire every 180 and therefore won't be an issue.

I would remove the crank angle sensor and re-install it per the factory service manual's proceedure.

The buzzing sound is probably your boost solenoid clicking, a normal thing in a T2 with the key on and the engine not running.

OK so i hooked up my L1 to the leading plug on the #1 rotor, L2 to the leading plug rotor #2, T1 to the trailing #2, T2 to the trailing #1... and now it runs very good......????????

So like the above person sayed the timing is messed up somewhere... Anybody have any information on how to reset is to the factory setting?

Thanks a lot!!
