I am sure you guys know cause I never noticed it before. car runs fine, starts fine. idles decent but a little low.
I just got the 02 sensor swapped. other than that nothing is any different...
what causes this?
and again my oil was fairly dirty.... so was my wifes and I change them both at 3000 or less. this time it was less....

i had a 1st gen, a 2nd gen s4 n/a, and a 2nd gen s5 tII. all of the oil in all of my cars smelled like gas.. i thought it was a rotary thing. so far i havent had any problems yet...
before it blew, mine smelled like it had gas in the oil whether i flooded it during that oil change cycle or not. in my opinion, if it runs strong and doesn't make wierd noises screw it. change the oil if you're worried about it.

First thing that jumped into my mind was the oil pan tube that connects to the dynamic chamber.. but then again, gas isnt mixed in with the air at that point
I dunno, thats some weird ****. If you've flooded your engine a few times before, maybe, just maybe, the gasoline is leaking in through the oil seals on the rotors?!?
just a guess.
this would give you the assumption that your side seals are bad. But maybe when theres to much gas, the seals shrink or some ****, and its totally normal?
eh.. someone else can answer this..

I just rebuilt my motor because of the combustion / gas smell in the oil. It was otherwise running fine, 150,000 km on the clock.
On teardown, sideseal to corner seal clearance was well beyond allowable specs - the sideseals had pounded a dent into the cornerseal. New sideseals were filed and fitted to .002" clearance.
The excess clearance allows combustion blow-by into the oiling system. Not optimal for oil purity IMHO.
