Changed Coolent, some q's

So I changed my coolent, didn't do a great flush but most of the liquid coming out was clear not green.

Filled her up with 50/50.

I kept having to add more, after putting on the cap and revving up and idling for a bit she'd eat up more and more fluid till I think she had enough, haven't checked recently.

Anyways, my temp gauge now sits about a cm lower than before, it's now about half way always, before it was 3/4ths way.

I live in a cold city, about 60-75f all the time, is my gauge reading too high still?

Another thing, I removed the air silencer just to see, I never noticed much of a difference except a bunch of cold air, when I changed the coolent though I noticed this lawn mower/grinding sound whenever i rev up the engine.

Once the engine hits the rpm where your holding the throttle and stays there, the sound goes away... would that be because the air silencer is gone? I'm pretty sure I would of noticed that sound before I asked another guy from teh club he said he has no clue how changing the coolent could equal that sound, nor do I

Yep, that's the air silencer sound. Did you change the thermostat with a Mazda unit?

Ah good good it was tripping me out for a bit, I did as the 7 member told me I took the car for some hard pulls and the temp gauge never moved, It was sounding near the air silencer/water pump, just couldn't tell thanks man.

Thermo's never been changed, nobody knows if the coolents been changed before, my dads driven the car for the past 7 years and he never changed it so I did, it was almost black

I would change the T stat. It's only like $20 IIRC.

He did change the thermostat.

It's tough to drain all the old coolant out of the system, so a little green left over is fine.

It does take quite a while to burb all the air out of the system. Just keep checking and adding distilled water as needed.

The thermostat actually tries to regulate the engine temperature at around 180-190 degrees, not just blindly open all the way once it reaches some set point. So seeing your temp gauge sit at around mid-scale is a good thing. Once the car warms up the gauge should not bounce around (going high to low and back) during normal driving conditions.

WHen I got dough I'll add that to the list

I was told it should be sitting alittle higher than 1/4

I've also read the clutch fan should stop? or spin slower? Mines always going fast and alot of the time I hear a electric fan which was enabled to turn on when the engines very hot for cali areas if I recall. (The ac fan I believe it is) but my ac is almost never on, moonroof & windows always down

The fan's what alarms me since it'll stay on after some few minute drives...

The clutch fan will always spin, the internal clutch just slips more when you are at speed because of the heat going across the fan. When you slow down and the airflow is not there it spins faster to cool the car.
