ceramic pads
i'm looking into getting a set of ceramic pads, front and rear for my 10AE. what do you guys think of using ceramic pads? what are some good brands that you guys would reccomend? the car is just a cruiser. i dont race it on the track in any way.
Ceramic is a great pad it is low to no dust (depending on what brand u get) will not gouge the rotors.
I recomend Centric Posi-quiet Ceramic pads... DONT USE AXXIS ceramic they are VERY dirty...
another recomendation would be the AXXIS organic pads again very clean not much noise if any...
the caramic pad I sell (centric) have a shim pack on the pads to so there will be no vibration or noise

Now I have Red Stuff on front and back and will only use the ceramic compounds. I recommend the PBR ceramics and EBC ceramics without hesitation since I have used them. I am also running EBC slotted and dimpled rotors on the front but still have OEM rotors on the rear. Your rotors, thickness, is especially critical to good braking so if you change pads make sure your rotors are in specs.

GTUser, rotors are brand new all around. the front rotors are drilled rotors, but were on the car when i bought it with less than 1K on them, so i'll keep them until they crack. where are you getting your pads from?
SpooledupRacing, i got your pm and i'll consider your offer, as it sounds excellent!

For your information.First let me say that Ceramic Pads are great!
However you should NOT use Ceramic Pads with DRILLED and/or SLOTTED ROTORS!
Mechanics and parts stores will say it is OK but DON'T believe them. Remember they are in the market to sell you brake jobs and new parts. The sooner they wear out, the more money they make and some of them just don't know the facts.
Ceramic pads and Slotted/Drilled rotors should NOT be used together.

that is not a 100% accuart statement..
drilled or slotted rotors with decrease the life of yoru pads REGARDLESS of what material they are...
the idea behind slotted and drilled rotors is cooling for better braking..
the idea behind ceramic pads is better feel, better braking low dust
how can u use one without the other.. why put 75.00 rotoros and 10.00 semi met pads.. u do understand that once the pads are worn u are supose to machine the rotors if u do not the pads will wear funny and u wont have a great braking system..
you take the good with the bad when it comes to brakes...

well, id personally just prefer regular rotors and the ceramic pads. the drilled rotors that are on the car are eating the pads up, evident by the gross amount of brake dust on teh wheels. i also have poor braking feel. i may just have to go in and put on all new rotors, ceramic pads, and stainless steel lines, with a complete flush of the brake fluid.

Posi quiets are good for around town driving, but I would avoid them for those who are aggressive on braking. Posi quiets tend to fade pretty quickly on every single car I have driven that use them. I have been using advics on the TII for the last 3 months and seem to work very well and have not been able to get them into fade. Akebono ProACT is also a great pad, but like the advics are expensive in comparison. I have also used axxis ultimate ceramics, like mentioned before they are very dirty and consume rotors quickly. For the price though, it is a very exceptional high performance pad.

I can't find any listing for an Akebono ProACT, Raybestos, or Bendix Ceramic pad application. No local stores have a Ceramic pad listing for the FC or FD, which I find interesting because I'm able to get them for my Girlfriend's Accord...
Anyone have a part number for the Akebono? I'm a big fan of their pads.

too agressive for street applications. they chew through rotors and can be noisy as hell when driven on the street. i'm still in the market for a set of ceramic pads. seems to be a little tough to find.

It's $104 for a set, but they are silent, create almost no dust, and brake well. I have them on my car right now, with new solid rotors I installed at the same time.

Kragen/O'reily's carries Raybestos ceramic pads, but they're not available in-store.

Have you had them at a track day or under some very heavy repeat braking to assess the fade?
My car only sees street driving, so I don't know how fade would be under repeated hard braking. But they do have a nice smooth engagement, and seem to stop very well. I've had them on for about 10,000 miles, and they've been very gentle on the rotors. I'm getting a very good wear pattern.

HPS are roughly the same price as the Raybestos pads above, but you have to mailorder them. I know about Hawk pads. That's why I was asking details regarding the Raybestos.
I get the nomenclature confused too.
