caynon adventure story
tonight was just like another usual night, got a call from a friend GS430, he says he wants to run tonight, and his friends 330 and SI are going also, so it's cool, i never really ran with them...but no big deal, let's go..the course is kinda different though, since it's pretty far, so i been there only twice only..
i am really excited to run this course because it's totally different than the course near my house that i normally run,
to be short, the one that i ran tonight is very high speed, with some blind corners U turns, and decreasing radius turns.....the turns are not bad at all, but it's just that it has a some long straights and all of a sudden i am going 80mph and need hard braking, road condition are very nice, roads are pretty wide, not too many trees on the side so i get to see pretty clearly....
basically me and all my roomates went (type R, 180sx, S14), and my drift/caynon friend FC, anyway we went up the caynon with 7 cars in a row, (me, FC, type R, GS430, 330, Si, S14).....180sx had some bad feeling tonight and so he didn't run..... me and FC was planning on having a little battle, so i said let's cruise up there slowly and then come down first so he can have some idea about the course, and then we go back up and battle for downhill.... (it's the first time for him to run there)
ok so going up was alright, then we stopped up there and took a cig break, and then started to go downhill..
it's all good running, then comes a little long straight ahead b4 some turns, although i didn't remember how all the turns are like, (long course), road signs are pretty good, plus i ran twice, so i have some good feeling about what's going on...
ok i clearly remember that i was going about 75mph on the long striaght b4 a big long right turn sweeper..
so brake brake brake down to about 50 going smooth out of the sweeper and then all of a sudden a left small turn with decreasing radius. with the help of the road signs, i knew this is one of those tricky corners, so i paid attention to my speed and it was all good
FC behind wasn't so good, long straight was about 80 and his brake sucks, so didn't reduce much speed. FC actually made the right big sweeper fine but then was probably overspeed at the following left turn, FC was basically drifting on the outside lane of the turn, but good that he didn't spin out and block the lanes (good job), Type R was following close, hard braking and escape from the left lane and didn't hit FC (good job type R)
and here comes the worst (best) part---
apparently GS430, 330, and SI are following each other really really close, GS hard brake, 330's front right hitted GS rear left, GS went on and hitted the side of the road.
SI probalby high speed and hard braking on the long sweeper, GS and 330 were almost in total stop infront of SI, and SI with no control of the car and no way to escape, fell down maybe about 7 feet high off the cliff on the right side. S14, the last car, knows his own limit and did not want to follow the SI, caz he didn't trust the SI i guess. and S14 was alright, but he missed the sense of the flying SI though
no one was hurt, so it's good.
those 3 guys were driving too close to each other without much skills and experience i guess
the smart guys's cars (me and all my roomates) are all ok..phew....
what happened tonight really give me a second thought about driving with non-driving buddies on caynon...dangerous, in general i guess just don't run too close with ppl u don't trust much...with an accident like this u can't really blame anyone, it's ur own fault if u are following too close, should simply just pass the car in front if u wanna drive a bit faster
end of story
A-spec---u really missed the sene of the civic hanging on the cliff

When I do my downhill drifting runs its only me and either my friend with a Hachi Roku or my other friend with an FD. I would never go with more than one other person, and especially not some people whose skills I am not familar with. A guy I know slid off a corner and dropped about 6-feet ( of course it was a Civic Si hatch ) and he never did it again <- of course he didn't know what he was doing. Good story though, although not very smart. Listening to some J-Pop helps your driving I think, gets you pumped and aware but still calm and not panicky.

hahhaha, i think i will take a pass on that
well for me, i get distracted when listening to music
being focus, driving smoothly, going with the rhythm, not rushing and hard braking into corners is probably one of the best few things i ever experienced in my life,
a year b4, i drove like crazy up on the mountain, bad road condition and braking with abs on all the time, after the drive and came to think about it, i guess i was actually panicing...kinda scary

You guys do your hard run downhill? Thats too much for me! Sure l get antsy driving back down from checking the road up out, but I like the fact that doing the "hill climb" thing your braking distances are soo much shorter, you get to drive car harder and when you lose traction you slow down fast. I guess I'm just a wimp, ha ha!

Yeah the main reason I go downhill is so I can drift easy. I have upgraded everything on my Brakes short of a $3000 big brake package. If your going to run downhill, make sure your brakes are good, or else.
