Cats back on along with stock intake, easier to redline?

Yeah ok so I put my cats back on and my stock intake back on. Before i had an aftermarket intake cone and a bonez midpipe on. Well after i put all the stock stuff back on it was so easy to get my car to redline. I would freely go to 8.5k, why is this?

You have more back pressure. Having a free flow system will apparently drop torque #'s (the actual drop is different for every car).. So with more torque you can accelerate faster.

Btw, I dont know how true this would be for your car... However thats how it was with my friends T/A. With a cutout he had a lot of top end and lost a little on the bottom. With it capped it felt way stronger down low.

well see thats the thing, i know its backpressure but it feels a lot stronger in the higher rang with the cats on. with the midpipe on it felt stronger in the midrange but really tappered off around 7800.

is it an N/A or turbo? It could be the 6th ports (I know nothing about these, but people complain about them all the time).

Nope he's got a s5. The aux ports are opened using a vaccum not the exhaust.

Actually, the 6 ports and the VDI are actuated by air pump pressure. If you take the air pump off, the car gets hella slow.

My guess is there's something related to the air pump - either removed or disabled. First time I ditched the cats on an '89-91 non-turbo I pulled off the air pump, and the car was quite a bit slower - I didn't know about it then . NA stuff is weird .

You could be running lean with the int / ex opened up. I'd bet you'd find a difference if you were to check that with a guage, or even a volt meter on the O2 sens.

NA's actually tend to run rich with the whole system opened up - the AFM can easily compensate for the increase in volumetric efficiency.

With the 6 ports and VDI not working, it's a snail to hit redline.

I have an a/f gauge in the car and it showed i was running rich the whole time, i also still have the airpump on and working. Maybe the intake i had on was really restrictive or something. I wasnt a high quality filter, it was like one of those ones you can buy at autozone thats universal. I dunno maybe not though
