Catalytic Converters Price?!?!
I have a '87 Turbo II. I was wondering how much does a new main Catalytic Converter cost? Mine is dislodging particles into my second one, and needs to be replaced. I live in Washington, and asked Hayes Rotary how much one would cost. Though I dont think a new one would be $900 dollars. If anyone can give me a normal price (estimate is fine), would be much appreciated, thanks.
I posted this in the Gen. Tech section, though it seems no one ever posts replys in there.

Well, I was just wondering about the price. I am thinking about buying a new exhaust system myself. I still have the stock exhaust system on my TII. I was just concerned, becuase ;
"When the Turbo exhaust gas flow is increased, the waste gate loses pressure faster, and allows the turbo to spool very quickly and can increase boost pressure too fast." "This is referred to as spiking." " A bigger waste gate and blow off valve are ways of controlling this, as well as a fuel cut defense mechanism or fuel injector computer to add more fuel so that the engine doesn't lean out during boost."
I really dont know if I'll need a BOV, or bigger wastegate if i buy a new exhaust system. I wouldnt have enough money for all that. Is it a must to buy a BOV and a bigger wastegate if i buy a new exhaust system? Plus does an '87 13b Turbo II engine's (ECU) come with computerized fuel injectors...?

The 2 converters from Mazda are around $1600. Just buy a Bonez down pipe(2.5) and a Bonez cat. The cat will have the tube for the air pump line, and will bolt on with no problems. I think it's around $350. Check Rotary Performance. I passed Jersey inspection without the pre cat. If you want used ones, give it a try, but they are a royal pain to get off the turbo esp. with the precat.
