PD question

quote:

It's NEVER normal to be able to smell gas inside any car ever.

Any fuel smell should be carefully investigated in case you have a leak. The pulsation dampers in these cars are prone to fail with age and leak fuel onto hot exhaust components. An engine fire will cause extensive and expensive damage.

-----------------------------------------------------

Would this cause my spanking new Bonez superflo cat replacement glow red towards the manifold end? I just replaced everything from the manif. back due to "clogged cats" The bad exhaust smell, that would near make you pass out after a few miles w/o the window down is gone, but just starting it up to let it sit and run for a min I could smell gas from under the hood and the connection from the manif. and my cat/pipe was starting to glow. Anyway those are my current problems, all I need left to do is brake pads and fresh tires and the cars' inspectable.

Can you smell fuel? You can visually inspect the pulsation damper and actually see the fuel dripping from it without removing anything. I doubt a leaky pulsation damper will make your exhaust components glow. If the PD was leaking fuel onto your exhaust, it would have caught fire by now.

Does your car use up lots of gasoline? Maybe the car is running really rich? or is it lean?

sounds more like there is a problem with the fuel injection or burn, than anything to do with t.he PD.

You need to find out why the engine is running so rich or why you are haveing unburnt gas in the exhuast

The PD is part of the fuel injector rail... it helps prevent the fuel injectors from effectiving each other.

Yeah my car does seem to burn gas like its cool. Im always going to fill up although it only takes 5-6 dollars to fill it, i think the floats bad, but I have been told the reason my cats may have clogged before was the car was running too rich. I'll try to look that one up, but I can always use some firsthand info. Thanks guys.
