cat questions

If i gut my cat on a stock exhuast, will i feel any gains? And how do I gut one exaclty? And if I do, will there not be enough backpressure to activate my 6-port actuators?

Thanks

you WILL feel the difference.
You'll need to take the cats off (this can be an all day job with the wrong tools and no lift) and use a broom handle or the like to bash the **** out of the contents of the cats until there's nothing in there anymore. Do NOT breath the dust from the crud in the cats! It's toxic, ya know.
Then you just have to put em back on...
It you keep the stock cat back, you may have enough backpressure but there's a TON of information here about making the ports work sans-cats..

has to pass emissions again in March

I did this a few weeks ago, and it was none too easy of a job. The exhaust bolts are torqued on REALLY HARD. I had to use my leg to get them loose. You will have to drop the cat and the cat back. You will see why once you get under there. I used a long screwdriver to clean out the stuff inside the cat. There are 3 layers, so it took me about 30 minutes to do this. It will be louder, backfire more, and it will pull better. I am buyibg a Bonez racepipe, and reduce turbulence, though...

The only thing with "gutting" the cat is that they say it creates an open area for air to circulate inside and therefore creates back pressure. The best option is to straight pipe it all together.

Agreed! Hey, Rico, why did you have to drop the cat AND catback? My cat has bolts on both sides, so it is pretty easy to drop just the cat.

Cunning plan if you need to pass visual emissions checks:
Gut the cat as per above then slide a piece of exhaust tube through the empty shell. Make sure it's as big as you can fit and weld it to the flanges. It'll flow much better than a gutted cat and still look stock!
