Yup. Done it the cut and stuff way. Been running for 6 months and no hint of an issue.
You cut along the top of the tunnel, slide it in, and stuff either side of the cut area under. You'll need to remove 3-6 inch's along the cut to have a decent chance of getting it all under.

I can't even tell you how many cars I have cut the carpet, pulled it out, pressure washed it and reinstalled and no one EVER knows the difference...
Trust me I wouldn't do it in my car if it looked bad...

I say cut the carpet. There is no real issue in cutting it as long as you don't go hog wild and take out too much. Removing the dash is a real pain compared to the 1 minute it takes to cut the dash. Not to mention all the little dash clips that will break and the necessity to unplug every damn wire and remove all the stuff (cluster, radio, etc.) from the dash first.
I installed my carpet last spring by cutting it to fit under the dash and have had no issues. I did, however, apply a little contact cement to the back of the carpet where it laid over the transmission tunnel. Just as insurance.

im going to change the carpet in my car now after reading this, I have been putting it off out of fear of the dash not going back properly due to shitty plastic breaking.
It has to look better then my stained gray carpet and the black carpet will go better with my new seats.
Time to clean the carpet and get that thing in!
