UPDATE:

We should have the N/A CF Hood to us in about a week now. The TII hood will take a few days to a week longer to finish since it has a hood scoop. Pics soon to follow

Also for those wondering, the hood scoop on the TII hood will be integrated into the hood so that it is one piece. We will also be making the stock hood scoop insert in CF as well once the hoods are all worked out

I think I know how NRA T2 gets most of his 420+ posts. Every thread he feels the need to throw in "Got Rice?". Didn't you ever learn: If you don't have anything nice to say, then SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE. Seriously though, this forum is suppose to be used for sharing ideas, spreading technical know how and helping each other. Please, only respond to threads if you having something meaningful/helpful to say. Geez

I, for one, will someday be looking for a reverse scoop hood when I finish my FMIC.

The N/A hood would be a great start for that then. You can just pickup a reverse vent in CF that people already make and have it molded in, or do it yourself if you have the skills needed to do so. I personally don't

No we will have these for many years to come. This is just the introduction of them into the market finally after how many CF hood posts? Someone should count them.

That would be funny

Dave, I would love to have the N/A carbon hood. The question is that there is a lot of “professional made carbon” peaces that people are making on the forum. I have bought some of these pieces that look extremely well in the pictures. But when I get them I feel like I just bought a $100 or more garbage bin liner. I have been massively disappointed in my carbon experience. This leads me to be very un easy about spending $600 on a hood. The company that does this, is there weave tight (like fiber images tight)? Will the quality and fitment of the hood be top notch? Last thing I want is it not to fit. Sorry to be so cautious but I have wanted a carbon hood for a while but I just don’t want to get screwed. Thanks

What kind of resin are they using on these hoods? Polyester or Epoxy?

Like rotary racer said, you got to be carful about this kind of thing. Iv seen some pretty low quality hoods on some cars. One of the main problems iv seen is when the gel coat 'pulls back' from the mold even before the first layer of fabric goes down. This is casued by improper use of a mold relese agent and/or an improper gel coat. On the finished product, you can see the areas where the gelcoat is missing. Looks like there where air bubbles there.

I totally understand the hesitence in buying a CF hood, especially after so long of having no hoods produced after people getting other aroused. Think back to my largest FC post ever with like 473 replies and over 20,000 views on getting body kits made That is why I haven't told anyone until I was 1000% sure this was going to happen. I have gone through different pieces of work that he has done in person, looked through all of his credentials, awards, checked his business license with the BBB here in San Diego, and to put the cherry on top, he is old high school friends with my buddy Craig that does engines with me now. This isn't a hobby for this guy, it is his business.

I know alot of you have read the things I have written about different products and the reviews I have done before on things. Believe me when I say that my review of these hoods will be unbiased, and I will be totally honest with everyone. If the fit isn't perfect I won't sell them. If they look like ****, I won't sell them. Point being is they aren't what I say they are, I will eat the mold cost and deal with it or take the molds somewhere else. I have no doubt in my mind though that they will look awesome and fit just as well from seeing the other things that their business makes. I will also try to have as many neutral people locally review them and add their $.02 to it. I know that quite a few more known people are all setup to get one as soon as I have pictures and a review of them, so if you want, feel free to sit back and let us be the guinnea pigs. That is what my website is designed for

As far as the more technical questions, I don't know but I can ask. I don't do this for a living remember guys? I just found him after looking for 9 months.

This is awesome, they even sell vents for the hood. MY TO4B produces a lot of heat, and i need to vent it out somehow. This would be a good efficient way. Man i get a boner just thinking about it.

Just some more tidbits of info for people. We went and looked at the status. I am so excited I want one NOW!

They are in the process of "splashing" the hoods, which is the same thing as making the "tooling" or "molds" Once those are finished they prep them and start laying the hoods.

I found that they use epoxy and 3M urethane bonding agent. The carbon fiber is 282 aircraft carbon (5.7ounce)

Don't ask me what that means because I don't do CF or glass but I bet OC knows

I will post more info as I have it.

Sounds good. A little bit heavier than if done via vacuum bagging, but should produce good results if done right.

Why was vacuum baggin quoted at $10K? Christ, my entire vacuum system doesn't cost that much.

I can't believe we're finally going to have a CF hood! And both NA and TII...You definitely get a handshake. Of course I'm broke now, but I will definitely buy a NA hood in the future. Thanks for all your hard work.

I have spent sooo much $$ on failure CF hods for my T2 I will buy one of these in a heartbeat just so I can stop obsessing! Himni racing- if you want some sheets of CF call me and Ill hook you up, I work with it all day at my speedshop 603 557 6152(Fred). As with these hoods I typically work with a 5.7OZ weave and polly resin, though I bag my setups. In my FC- my door panels, center console, shifter surround, and guage pod, are made of CF. This winter I am replacing my entire dash with a VERY lightweight one made from Carbon. So anyway I certainly can sell sheets of CF, also have a custom made white and black checkered carbon/F glass weave thats about a 20OZ fabric meaning its badass thick ****!

How were you unable to get a working hood with a vacuum bagging system?
