There are actually quite a number of hoods mande for FC's. Carbon fiber even. There is even a TII style carbon fiber hood made.

I suggest finding yourself a HyperRev catalog. Go to a Japanese grocery store or book store. A lot of those places carry them.

Really though, if any of you have a hard time finding parts for your cars then you are not searching the net enough/at all. www.yahoo.co.jp that is a search engine for Japanese websites. Just search for RX-7 or FC or something and you will find everything you want and more.

There is probably more real parts made for FC's than Civics. By real parts I mean functional parts like hoods, aero parts, engine parts and so on. Not stupid tail lights, gauges, and what not.

I am about to start making a carbon fiber hood, as a start-up project for my TII. I expect to have it done by Christmas. You're welcome to come by and make one using my mold if you can cover the costs of materials.

I was wondering where do u get your information on making custom molds an all... do u have any books or links you recommend that i read up on?

thanks man

Its basically the same process as making molds from plugs using fiberglass, just with a fancier material. Any decent book using fiberglass techniques will be a good start.

I recommend quite a bit of practice with fiberglass before attempting carbon fiber. You will make mistakes.
I made a Canoe, by using another canoe as a plug, and then using the mold to make the canoe. I could manufacture them now, but who cares about a canoe?

Pick a good project to practice on.

20B project is only in the "funding" part. CF hasn't been started yet, but will be soon. And I gave myself plenty of time for it; 5 months. 500 hp TII already exists, and only requires maintenance and bottle refills. I won't be working during school.

I'm not THAT busy. Right now the only thing I have on that list is Work. (75 hours last week) TII's at home, as it tends not to fair very well in dusty dirt roads. Only two weeks and I'm home!

ahhh...somebody just needs to talk to the guys at Fiber Images and coax them and get some preorders so they'll make one. They make one for a camry for **** sake. Get some preorders and talk them into it - it will be way cheaper than $700.

I'm thinking about getting one from the guy in the parts trader. If I do I'll let you guys know how the quality is and fitment. I emailed him a couple of times and he said it fits good and does not need custom brackets. It bolts right in. For 200 bucks it sounds like a smokin deal!!! We'll see.....if not....owell its only 200 bucks. Not like my crazy expensive Scoot Hood.

No one in BC, that I know of, sells carbon fiber fabric. There's a place in surrey that sells everything else you need, I can sort out a link if you really need it.

I have emailed him several times. I have told him again and again that I have the money waiting right here, and am willing to buy it right now. All I want is a pic of a finished hood. He has only sent me a photo of a 6"x6" piece of CF so far.
Personally, I do not believe that he has made one yet, otherwise, I would have already bought it. He is in PR, so I don't know what shipping would be from there.

Has anyone actually checked the shipping rates from Japan? Couldn't we get a group buy going, and have 20 CF hoods shipped in one big crate here? Shouldn't be all that expensive. Hell, shipping a whole TII from VA to Germany was only $750 on a commercial vessel. A crate for 20 hoods would be 1/2 the size and weigh very little. If shipping was $400 for 20 hoods, that's only $20 each.

BTW - When I had a fiberglass hood shipped to me, it was cheaper to fly it in than to truck it in.

On shipping (good sites):
http://www.travelleronline.com/libra...ngavehicle.htm
http://www.pref.saitama.jp/A20/BD00/...es/sending.htm

Shipping Companies (Japan to US):
UPS http://www.ups.com
Fed-Ex http://www.fedex.com
USPS http://www.usps.com
Pak Mail http://www.pakmail.com/

The Nantahala Outdoor Center ships canoes and kayaks to Japan. Here is something from their website:
Shipping to Japan
UPS - NOC ships orders to Japan valued at over $100 by United Parcel Service (UPS). While more expensive, UPS shipments can be tracked and arrive faster and more reliably than other services. The average charge is between $70-$100(US), depending on the size and weight, and $120 (US) for kayak paddles. We will quote you a shipping rate by fax or e-mail at your request.

USPS - We can ship orders valued at less than $100.00 by US Postal Service Air, at your request. The average charge is $15.00 to $40.00 (US). Delivery cannot be guaranteed and will be slower than UPS.

Scathcart- do you plan to use a bag setup for the hood? Or are you claving it? Or like me just laying it as flat in the mold as you can! I tell you what I have tried making about6 CF hoods, and always have probs with them. I am starting over AGAIN, but this time I am gonna perfect it with fiberglass, then try again with CF. My other big problem is finding CF in rolls wider than 50", our hoods are about 60" wide.

I emailed the guy, he is currently out of stock, he'll let me know as soon as he gets more of them.

There is no pics of the hoods, and shipping should be about the same shipping from one state to another state (by air).
