Carbon Fiber Hood!!!!
I hate to be annoying but can I ask you a few questions?
1.) What is done to you car right now modification-wise?
a.) Nothing I am stock, with some aftermarket rims.
b.) Intake, and Exhaust
c.) Everything above + SAFC, upgraded fuel system, FCD, stock turbo, or hybrid.
d.) Intake, Exhaust, Upgraded fuel, Standalone EMS, Full Turbo Upgrade, all the supporting mods, rebuilt, streetported or otherwise ported engine, aftermarket suspension etc.
e.) My car is an all out race car it has been built from the ground up with new or great condition used parts and everything is tuned and dialed in perfectly so I can place in the top bracket this season.
2.) Has your stock hood been destroyed due to some sort of accident or hail damage?
a.) No, I just think it looks crappy.
b.) No, The paint is peeling really bad and a paint job costs too much.
c.) Yes, my car was parked outside one day, and a hailstorm occurred destroying my stock hood with thousands of little dents. Thanks to comprehensive insurance however I got the amount of money it would take to buy an OEM replacement.
d.) Yes, my car was involved in a collision and my stock hood was destroyed, thankfully the blame was not on me, and the other person's insurance company paid for the damages to my car in full.
3.) Have you considered using a TII or NA aluminum hood? They are both very lightweight and cheap alternatives to Carbon Fiber, plus since they are OEM the fitment is perfect by comparison.
a.) No, I never really thought about using the stock piece, it is too bland for my taste.
b.) No, I need every bit of weight savings for this car because it is stock, and thus with no other modification, weight reduction is the only way for me to see improvement in performance.
c.) I have considered the benefits of owning a stock hood, including the lower likelihood of theft of my vehicle, but I really need the extra cooling provided by the CF hood's vents.
d.) I don't really care if it is stock or CF I just want something to replace my broken hood, I am going to paint it the same color as my car anyway.
4.) What is this car going to be; (ie. what's it's purpose?)
a.) This car is my baby, she stays locked in a trailer all night and all day.
b.) This car is my daily driver but I like to go to Hot Import Nights with it. On special nights I also throw in my two NOS--> Brand subwoofers.
c.) This car is going to be competing in sanctioned racing events in the coming season and every single bit of weight savings is going to be necessary.
d.) This car is a pure drag monster, I wouldn't even have a hood on it, if I could find a decent one piece front end to replace the stock front.
e.) This car will be my daily driver, but I have done enough modifications to it, that a CF hood is simply going to be the icing on the cake, my car is perfect and there is nothing left to be done. Seriously, I even have a dry sump oil system.
5.) What is your main purpose for wanting a Carbon Fiber hood?
a.) I saw Fast and the Furious, and all the cars had them, all the cars in that movie were 11 or 10 second cars, therefor by my calculations I will also need a CF hood to go fast.
b.) Other people say they are cool and I have to have them. It looks mad tyte, not to mention girls think it is hawt too.
c.) I really do need the cooling benefit, that extra vents can provide.
d.) My car is primarily NA but heavily modified, I need every single ounce of weight savings in order to turn in a faster track time. Hell I even threw out my mirrors, and replaced all the glass in my car with Lexan!! Did I mention I also cut out my sunroof panel and bracketing and welded on a new solid one piece roof?
6.) How much have you spent on your car not including the cost of buying it?
a.) Nearly nothing. Oh wait I have 2,000 dollar aftermarket wheels, with kumho ecsta supras for tires.
b.) Around a grand, I have replaced a lot of parts that have broken, not to mention my Apexi N1 knockoffs that I got off of ebay, and my indiglo gauge cluster.
c.) I have probably spent around 5k by now rebuilding the engine and having everything running right, I am probably going to double that though, when I get my FMIC and Full GT40R Setup.
d.) I have sunk more money into my Mazda-toilet than every relationship I have ever been in.....combined..... plus my current marraige, and the alimony from the last one.
e.) I am in debt up to my eyeballs, the only reason I can evade Visa, and Discover and other major credit card companies, is that I built a vehicle sooo fast with credit, that not even the cops can catch me. Sadly I have to repaint it every week if I have any hopes of not getting caught.
Now, after these 6 questions if all or the majority were answered with A or B the answer is that you need to do some other modifications on your car before you start investigating bodykits and CF hoods. A CF hood is all show and no go, without a properly built car backing it up, and it gives yourself and others a bad name when you drive around town looking like a dolt for owning a stock car, with a hood that cost nearly a grand. If you answered C, D or E, chances are you might actually have a real reason for owning a CF hood, power to you. There are still better things to spend your money on, but as far as aesthetics and cooling go, CF can be a very nice upgrade.
In the end, it is your money, and your car, spend/mod it however you like, but remember CF isn't going to make your car go much faster at all. If it will go any faster the difference will be marginal. Good luck with your '7 and drive safe!

apperance is the last thing that i am worried about. it is a GTU that i made a TII. it has standalone fuel, s4 engine block with s5 turbo manifolds and other acc., 17in wheels, geared, fully built race ready tranny(beefed up tranny), street-ported, custom built v-mount intercooler radiator set up, full tein coil overs and EDFC, FD brakes front and rear, sway bars and etc.
i am not one of those stock under the hood and pretty outside weirdos. performance is the priority to me then looks, way later.
so anyway my car has hail damage mainly on the hood and it needs a new one. so why not upgrade to CF? lighter, better looking, stronger, being covered by the insurance company.
i just asked one ******* question dude. what are my options for CF hoods for my FC.
thanx!

Hey that is freaking awesome!!! I am so happy to see someone that is actually getting something and looking for something based on need and convenience rather than a trendy fad. Post up some pictures of your car. Especially when you get that hood
. BTW my favorites are the Odula hood and the RE Amemiya, sadly they cost a great deal. Good luck on your search and sorry to go so hard on you

87GTR: I know you have been selling alot of things from Japan lately, if you could find me one of those kagotani hoods you just posted, in either FG or CF, I would gladly buy it and pay for shipping over here ( as long as it isnt extremely rediculous). Let me know, Ive always wanted a nice vented hood.
