Is this car worth buying?? Need help...

Alright. So you may have read one of my other posts about this car. But I really didn't post much about it.

So here it is. Alright, he has a 1990 Gtu N/A, he said he'd sell it to me for 450 bucks hah.

Heres wat its got-

116k miles

dirty interior

Nice tires.

New exhaust, all custom.

Transmission is going, I think (doesnt go into 1st, and barly 2nd.)

No radio deck.

Engine bay is all dirty.

Car was beat up a bit, but still runs hard (except w/ the tranny)

the paint is red, faded a bit, and has a crappy black stripes down the middle. =(

I dont really know much else besides this car, except when he had the tranny fine, that thing went =)

If I would buy it, I would get a new tranny, fix up interior, paint, and fix the engine up a bit. This car is pretty much my dream car. And as you can see, I'm pretty much set on buying this car. I really want your oppinions on it though, it helps hearing what others think.

So I need some help if I should buy this, or pass??? Please give oppinions!

do a search on how to do a compression test the correct way, and it's even better to have one done in person.

Yes it all depends...

I only pay $70.00 a month, although, it is liability.

dude, the shell is worth $450 easily, you could probly fix the tranny, clean it, turn around and sell it for 1.5 - 2K, thats even pretty low miles! do it, it just needs a lil TLC

Just be thankful that that trans dosnt do what mine does well did until i put in a new one. I could put it in first start going down the road and pull up on the shifter and put it in the neutral position while it is still in gear.

I know both of the people who owned the car personally (go to my school) and there is no rust on it at all. Just minor body work needed on the fenders (little dents)

And yep, it does need some TLC

buy it, and even if you cant restore it, you'll make money in parting it out. They as you said really are dream cars. You
'll love it if you go through restoration. Look at the bright side, I overpayed and spent $4,000 on this car and I need an engine rebuild, the tranny is leaking, and the differential pin is leaking. The paint is faded on the roof, but the interrior is mint.

I pay $90 for two cars with state min. '86 rx and a 1995 Altima

I'm 22 and in the Military so it gets quite cheap, lol.

But either way I would buy it, hell you can get a working tranny for a good price on eBay and if you got a motor rebuild from one of the cheaper places like www.rotaryressurection.com it would be a really nice car for still a good price.

Body restoration is the easy part IMO, you can get it done for cheap (well a good price) and most panels can be bought off other members here for a good price. I would attack any rust spots hell bent on fixing it right off the bat though.

I bought a car that look so-so, interior was 95% mint engine runs strong other than an idle problem. I have replaced the entire front end (control arms, shocks, sway, tie rods you get the picture) I paid $2550 for mine. The body on the other hand is original paint with surface rust. The body was the least of my concern when I bought it because in the fall it is going to get, as my body shop puts it "we gonna **** it up". I am pretty sure thats a good thing haha. It will be a complete tear down minus engine drop. I will have more in the paint and body than I do in the car. The way I look at it other than a Porche this is my car. It is also $60,000 cheaper. Do not rush and have shabby work done on the car take your time and invest your money in good work, it will save you in the long run. Eric

I'd look into other cars.

Yeah it's only about $500 but consider what its going to cost you to get that transmission rebuilt, interior cleaned/replaced, the car itself repainted/buffed out. So I mean you actually want to drive this around and use this car it will probably be more of a hassle and time drain than worth.

Granted you should get it, take off the bumpers, hood (its alum right?), side moldings, and tail lights then crush it. Then either sell those or buy a good condition S4 and put harvested body parts on it. =P
