Usually if the engine keeps running after the key is put to OFF, it's because someone has gotten the two wires on the back of the alternator crossed up and those wires are backfeeding the ignition circuit.

So start the engine and warm it up. Then after it's warmed up, put the key to OFF. I assume it's still running, so now go pull the small, two wire plug off the back of the alternator and see if the engine now dies. Then write back as to what happened and maybe someone can give you a clue.

Many times the MAIN fuse blows because the large output wire to the alternator has been shorted to gnd by a screwdriver/wrench during maintanence.

Are you sure the main fuse blew out?...if the main fuse blows...shouldnt it "not" start?
As to your problem...I'd go with what HAILERS said
