car wont stay running
car wont stay running
Bought my first rx7 a week ago. The car sat for a year. Put new plugs in replaced battery and blew out fuel lines. the car starts and runs for a few seconds and then cutsoff. Im not sure were to begin. Could someone please help.
It might be slightly low on compression from sitting for so long.
If you can start it and keep it alive with your foot, do that and drive it around for 30+ minutes or so for it to build compression. If it was running ok before it was left and nothing got in there and made a nest or ate some wires this might be all it needs.

could be multiple things.i suggest checking for vacuum leaks, since it's been sitting and who knows how old the lines are, check the intake hose for cracks, check the connection to the AFM,change the fuel filter since it might be plugged, changed the strainer on the fuel pump and might as well drain the tank while doing it and get fresh gas in there.good luck.
My car would start up then die within 5 seconds possibly like yours. I just pulled my engine today after replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump and spark plugs + compression check+doing the de-flooding procedure many times+the ATF trick and fresh gas. Never found out what caused the problem. But today I found out that on my rotor there was a VERY thick layer of carbon buildup though. Maybe this would cause the start/die problem; although I don't know what would cause that. Just an idea that might aid anybody trying to help you. Good luck.
yeh carbon build up is sometimes a leading component.
try running seafoam. or taking your 7 to the redline for a few seconds to destroy some of that carbon build up if you have any.

You may have "bad" fuel. Gasoline can congeal in tight spots in the lines when sitting that long. Check to make sure you are getting fuel at the injectors. If not, replace the fuel filter, drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel.

a redline a day keeps the carbon away.
a saying i live by.
check your gas like above, change the oil, vaccum leaks, check grounding
also check all your sensors, if any of them went bad, especially something like your tps...it will give you either a very poor idle or no idle at all.
