Lightbulb Car won't stay running

I just bought another 87 GXL and it wont run. It turns over and sputters like it wants to start but it wont. Also it keeps flooding and fauling the spark plugs. Anyone know what wrong with my car? I am all out of ideas. I thought maybe the fuel injectors are bad or maybe the precat is clogged but I have no idea. Please Help I need to get back on the road.
Thanks for the help Dave

P.S. The car has 181,000 on it. Could it have a bad Apex? The guy I bought it from said it ran fine then just started flooding and fauling plugs.

First you need to thoroughly unflood it. Get a hand oil pump and some atf. Find the 3 vacuum hoses on front of the intake, pull the largest hose off the manifold. Pump the atf down this hose. Replace hose. Wait 2 minutes, start the car.Floor it for a few seconds to urn some of the **** off the plugs so it will at least stay running. It could be that the plugs are so bad fouled that they will not run, so try another set also. BE sure they are all in tight, and wires are in right positions.

Next, you need to consider installing a fuel pump fot switch which is easy to do. DO a search, and if you cant find a decent answer, then Ill do another writeup for you.

Ok, youll need 2-3' of 14-16 gage wire, a good toggle switch(radio shack makes a nearly flat one I like), 2 female spade connectors, and 2 wire taps(goes over 2 wires and connects them together). look under the dash beside the steering column. There is a black relay with 5 wires coming out from it. Cut the biggest one, the middle wire, black with white stripe. Leave room on both ends to splice back in later.

Remove your lower steering column cover. The switch I use fits in it well, I mount mine right behind teh key. IT is $2 at radio shack, black, roud, and sticks up only 1/16", so I see it as an anti-theft also since it would be hard to notice if you didnt know it was there. I use a dremel to cut a hole for the switch, and mount it on the cover. Cut the wire in half, connect 2 spade terminals to an end of each wire, and hook to the switch. Replace the column cover and run the wires through the dash back to the relay.

Use the wire taps to connect each end of the wires to each end of the wires you cut earlier. Doesnt matter which end goes where.

When the switch is ON(usually UP) the fuel pump is working.

To shut the car off, flip the switch off while runing and let die, then remove key.

To start, crank car over and flip switch while cranking.

For flooding problems check out http://www.rx7.com/tech/unflood-fc.html . If unflodding it doesn't make it run better than it could be a problem with the air flow meter. Those things suck.
