car wont start replaced wiring harness help
i have a 86 rx that fried the harness. I replaced the harness(interior included) now it wont start lol. It wont turn over or anything no door ajar noise at all. I do get the dome light to come on when the door is open though, so it does have power somewhat. Im thinking something ignition? There are 2 little wires on the back of the tumbler that go into a little plastic box. They looked like they where soildered(sp?) on? Im thinking this could be one of the main causes if not the only cause of this. Thanks everybody for all the help see ya,
kevin.

do the warning lights come on ?
if its not turning over it could be the clutch switch , the harness for the ecu has nothing to do with the car turning over , the power to the starter comes from the main fusebox in the engine bay which is a seperate harness that is just for the transmission, crank angle sensor and starter etc
also , im not sure if im thinking of the same thing but i believe there is a box under the steering colum for the ignition , i am assuming it either makes contact or breaks contact when you turn the key to provide power to whatever it is going to, so soldering it just would give it constant power kind of like hotwiring it ... but i could be totally wrong im still an amateur with the whole car thing , ive learned alot the hard way too. I actually replaced my harness in my car also, the main harness and the rear chassis harness , also took out the engine harness too and swapped it with another just to be safe

no warning lights because no dash hooked up yet. I have it all there just not hooked into the dummy light and dash yet. What does the clutch switch and cas look like? There is a round white plug coming off the tranny that isnt hooked up so i think that might be doing something eh?

the crank angle sensor is on the front right side of the engine , it has a bolt holding it in place onto the front cover
there is an old thread of mine that listed how my car wasnt turning over either, i actually had the clips connected to the wrong things
i would get you the link to my thread but my computer is running like a beast and freezing alot so it would take a while to do that , u can proly find the thread if u goto my profile and look at my old threads i posted
also , u can always take the wiring out of the dash and make sure everything is workin properly and stuff like that and so u know where the wires go ( i did this ) but it also made putting the dash in a pain in the ***, my heater isnt turning on either for some reason.. but at least the car is starting up

sure the battery is hooked up correctly... common to have it installed backwards unless you know better.
Negitive terminal (ground of the battery) should be near the headlight, while the + positive side should be near the shock tower.

no the battery is hooked up correctly but as far as the cas goes i have no idea. The clutch switch is inside the car? right at the top of the clutch pedal assembly? anybody else have any ideas? I dont have the dash in either or any of the electronics hooked up besides the ecu. The ecu is out of a donor car so it should be ok

That's what the man said. The clutch switch is at the very top of the clutch pedal. Pull the Black wire with a RED stripe off the switch. With a meter see if there is 12v on that wire when the key is to ON. If there is 12v there, then bypass the clutch interlock switch and put a jumper wire b/t the black/red wire and the other wire on the switch which should be black/green. The clutch switch is identified by being located at the upper three inches of the clutch pedal and having two wires with the colors Black/Red and the other Black/Green. These colored wires are on the harness side of the connector.
The ignition switch has three connectors to it. They are all located about six to eight inches away from the ignition switch. One of the three is asinglewireconnectorthathasablackwireontheharnesss ideoftheconnectoritsuppliesthe12dctotheignitionswi tchwithoutthiswirebeingwholefromtheenginefuseboxto theignitionswitchtherewillnevereverbeastartingofth eengine
I'd take a look and make sure those three connectors are in place and the wire I mentioned has the 12vdc on it at all times. Whether key is ON or key is OFF.
Do your brake lights work if the pedal is stepped on?

Is this new harness/harnesses the same make and model as the car? Or?????? Or is it a combination turbo/non-turbo harness mix?
