I have an 86 RX7. The car wont start without starting fluid and once it does start (this takes many tries) it tries to die and idles very rough. It has recently started running on the front rotor only when off throttle. The has no emissions equipment. We have checked for every vacume leak we can find and resealed the fuel injectors with fresh o-rings, and am now buying block off plates for the left over ACV valves and other fittings that I can get. Also, does anyone have a 13B 6port holley manifold for sale, cheap?

 

i am having the same problem with my 86 gxl. i am gonna try blocking off the intake manifold warmup stuff.

 

intake warm up stuff is gone. rats nest is gone. ACV gone. cats, air pump. lets see.... AC, PS, BAC....AWS... most of the interior too.

 

i've done the same thing and now having the same problems.

 

if u are able to start the car at all, try driving around on one rotor only for a few minutes. i did this today and my other rotor kicked on after a few minutes. i am having no problems as long as i do not leave the car idling.

What would an 86NA act like if it had a fuel injector leak around the o-rings? My TPS voltage is normal and I have no BAC.

 

Probably. Not sure why it would run on only one rotor though. If the injectors arent sealed correctly it causes a vac leak.

EDIT: Did you change all the o rings on the injectors? Did you removed the UIM? If you did, did you use a new gasket?

 

no I reused the old gasket because it stayed on the LIM and was in good shape. The gasket looked great, do they have problems sealing? What would be a good gasket to get for it? Does anyone make a metal one that seals well? Right now I have the LIM off the block. The gasket for it is metal with what apears to be a plastic covering. Its thick looks like it would seal well. Does it need to be replaced also?

 

I think it always need to be replaced any time you take off the UIM.

 

Make yourselves a fuel cut switch to get you through til you can permanetly fix whatever the real problem is. There is a Circuit Opening Relay above the steering column. Buy a 15amp switch at the autostore. Pull the Blue wire out of the relay base and run it to the new switch and then run another wire from the other post on the switch back to the relay base where the blue wire was installed. Mount the switch anywhere that is convienient to starting the car. Use the same gauge wire as the Blue wire that was in the base of the relay.

Or go to SEARCH, and look for *fuel cut switch* and do it like they do it.

 

sounds like one of your primary injector wires backed out of the plug. might want to pull off the plugs on your primary injectors and have a look see.
