Ok I was out driving and my cd player got real distorted and then turned off. Now I was only about a block from my destination so I just decided to figure it out there. So I got there turned my car off and put it on acc, lo and behold my cd player turned back on, so i was confused but happy my cd player still worked. About an hour later I tried to leave and my car wouldnt start. The ignition solenoid still fired so I fugred my battery was dead. I tried to jump it, when I put the jumper cables on the ignition stopped firing. Just about then I noticed a cable coming off the back of my alternator that looked "weird". So I peel back the rubber boot and yay my alternator came ungrounded. The little end had came off, so I recrimped another end on and tried to jump it again, no luck. Now I am wondering when the alternator came ungrounded did it just fry itself or something ?!? Any Ideas are welcome =(

Sounds like you need to re-redo the wiring to your alternator and put your battery on a charger overnight. What do your battery terminals look like? Replace 'em if they look aged.

The easiest and best way to figure out if you have a dead alternator is to pull it off and go to your local parts shop to have it checked. Might as well take your battery along for the ride and do 'em both.
