car wont start

Hi,
when I try to start the car, the engine cranks, but the car wont start.
I tried to press the gas while cranking but it doesnt work.
my car is a 89 GXL.
I was playing with the alernator earlier, could I have done something wrong?
thanks!

I love these threads. They crack me up.

Uh, you mean:

Before I messed with it, she worked fine, and then I started playing with the alternator, could I have done something wrong?

?

Define "playing".

Usually, the alt won't stop it from starting. A faulty Alt will allow it to start but it will not continue to run.

Need more info.

well i wanted to put a strut bar in, but the alternator was too high. so i brought it down. The strut bar still wouldnt fit, so I put everything back like it was b4.
And now the car cranks but wont start.

Um' No.

Funny thing. I have never had a flooding problem ever.

So I've never done an unflodding proceedure.... I do know that you're just dumping more fuel into the motor by stepping on the gas, therefore flooding it, I presume anyway. Unless the 88 comes with somekind of computer that doesn't allow you to pour gas in by the peddle- Anyhow...

Whoa, doubt its the alternator, unless you somehow crossed some wires and shorted a fuses somewhere when you tried to put the strut bar in?

Do you have spark?

well on S5s that's how u do it I thought.
I tried the S4 way, and it still doesnt work.
When I put the alternator back up tho, the wire on the back of it touched the TB and some sparks came out. Could that be why?

How do you know if you have spark?

thanks

Yes this could definately be it.

One way you can check to see if you have spark is to pull out one, and only one of the plugs on the ign coil, the one by the front left of the car. Pull it out a little untill you see the end of its metal. Then hold it, BY THE RUBBER PART, a little bit away from the ign plug opening. Then have a friend crank the engine. You should see a spark go down there, or it will slightly shock you its okay, only hurts the first time. Call me twitch.

Anyway, You probably blew a fuse and now have no spark or something.

Check you master fuses in the engine bay, and the 15A engine fuse in the drivers side panel.
