car wont crank in the cold

my car had a bad water pump, so i replaced it, but it was sitting outside in the cold for about 2 days. I started it up to pull it in the garage, and it turned over with little problem. After replacing the water pump, and the upper rad hose, my car will not crank. I measured my battery voltage and it was 12.3volts. Can anyone help me diagnose this problem? Also the pullys will not move by hand.

Take the belt off the water pump and see if the battery will will turn the engine over. If it does, you may have installed something incorrectly and the water pump is bound up and not allowing the engine to turn over.

did the engine turn (like moving)???? Did you unhook battery cables???? Maybe the connectors are not tight. You should be able to grab the belt by hand and move the alternator, waterpump, pulley. If it does, it's not the waterpump. Did you take the distributor off??? Might be off timing. I don't know exactly what is not turning over. If you can define your sympton, we all can help. You can also test the starter with a battery and jumper cables. Negative to the body of the starter, positive to the solenoid and the male spade at the same time. Let us know.....

well if the starter is wet, it has a better chance of grounding out. Thats why i put that.

yeah, i just got doing that. All good. Is there something that could have come unplugged or something that would cause it to just stop turning over? I find it hard to beleive that the starter would go at the EXACT same time i replaced the water pump. I have an 87 N/A by the way. if that helps.

My guess: Check if you are getting battery power on the big fat wire to the starter. If you don't check your battery cables. Next unplug the connector, with an assistant, tell him or him or her to turn it on like to start it. With a tester check if you are getting voltage, if you get voltage, that means your starter is fried. If no voltage, to be sure, you can junp the starter from underneath. Make sure the car is in neutral (should have been already and go underneath Safely) and jump the starter to see if it works. If it does then you have a continuity problem.....

just yank the starter off and test it, its 3 BOLTS... plus you tearing it down and cleaning/lubing every thing in the starter would help alot also.
