Car woes

He fellas. I recently purchased a 87 TII. My problems is as follows. It used to be when you put a battery in the car you would get the normal stuff when the key was at the on position. Today when i put a new battery in the car would do nothing in the on position. What can I do??? The only things that work for me are the headlights and the interior lights(by the sunroof controls). All info is appreciated. Thanks

1)check fuses first, might have fried one...
2)check main harness/ battery/ ground wiring second, for any noticeable damage
3) ignition switch good?

I know it sounds dumb but check the polarity, my dad had a old subaru that some1 put red boots on the negative and black on the positive he put a new battery in it and the lights still worked as they are not sensitive to polarity in most cases, but it wouldn't start

Thanks. I ended having to change a main fuse. It still acts funny though because it seems that if the key isnt in the right spot you wont anything working. Also, the horn doesnt work, neither does the suroof and I checked all the fuses they are all good.

Thanks for all the info. Once i get this problem solved its on to getting the car started. There's only one thing. Before I got the car to my house, someone had stolen the hood and it rainged, so some water ended up in the intake piping and turbo. Has anyone else had this misfortune?????
