When i go to start the car nothing happens.When the key is In the on position I can hear all of the solenoids and stuff clicking like normal but when i go to start it nothing happens. Battery is fully charged. When i connected the starter directly to the battery the engine turned over so the starter and starter sol. are fine.

When the key is in the on position, the fuel pump is not turning on like it should. I checked and its getting 12 volts. It seems like the neutral safety switch is messed up or something. Any help at all would be appreciated. thanks.

 

there isnt power going to the starter from the ignition. boom, problem solved.

check around the clutch, there should be a switch (like a tps switch). it cuts power from the starter if the clutch isn't fully depressed. it might need to be adjusted.

Check the clutch switch.
You can also put the key to on, and find the small black wire that is attached to the starter its about the size of an 18 guage wire or so. Try getting 12 volts to that wire. If the starter works, then that means the ignition key module or something inline with it is not sending power to that black wire.

 

or you can take that black box out that is under the clucth pedale cut it off and splice them and connect both wire togther just put black tape on the wire i heard it work you can do more research in this forum thats where i found about this

 

Turn the key to Start: the powre goes from the ignition switch..........to the clutch interlock switch............to the Starter Cut Relay in the engine bay if you have factory theft protection.........to the starter solenoid.

No Theft Protection? Then in place of the Starter Cut Relay there is a BLUE jumper plug in the hareness. It can be found under the Trai Coils.

Pull the Blue jumper. Get a piece of wire bare at each end. Put one end on the battery then touch the other end to the BLACK/WHITE wiere in the plug where the jumper was. The starter will now turn over and if the key is in the ON position the engine will start. IF the transmission was left in gear.......you just ran your foot over.

The clutch interlock switch is at the very top of the clutch pedal IT is NOT the tiny switch locaed mid way on the clutch pedal. Find the pigtai for the interlock switch. and pull it apart. Turn the key to Start and with a meter see if you have 12vdc at the Black/REd wire coming from the ignition switch. Got it? Good. Then in that case leave the half of the plug going to the interlock alone but jumper the two wires in the other half of that plug. ONe will be black/red and the other black/green.

Doing that you bypass the interlock switch. Now turn the key to STart and if the car starts the interlock switch is kaput.

You need to download the simple wiring diagrams that are online and free for downloading.

 

I don't think the solenoid would act as it is working (clicking) if there is a clutch switch problem. I can't remember if it does or not. Try to bang the starter with a hammer a few times, your solenoid might be stuck.

 

Well, the thread starter said nothing made a sound when the key was put to START. Who knows. And he thinks the fuel pump should run with the key to On. And no responses to answers. Gone.

 

Glad all this got posted though, 'cause I just bought an 87 TII w/ exactly the same problem. Turn the switch on, I can hear all the solenoids and stuff powering, turn it to start and no sound at all from under the hood, just a clicking under the dash of a relay of some sort. Guess I'll be hunting the interlock switch down, once I get the car to my shop

 

i just killd my Fuel Pump. sooooooo Yeah cant help ^.^

 

the underdash clicking ( under the steering wheel ) is a fuel relay of somesort
