car surging/strugling at low rpm's

Ok i have a 89 t2 and if i am in 4th gear about 2k rpm and i start to lightly boost it, the car will just surge,sputter, and not move at all. but i can down shift and get up just fine. if i go to punch it it will strugle for a split second then go like normal. i was noticing a hissing sound (like a leak) coming from my MAF sensor. i visual looked and cant see any craks or anything. i also noticed a ground strap in the MAF conector that was not hooked to anything. im getting a pic of that tomarrow and posting it. does anyone have any idea why my car is surging like that at lower rpm's???

i had a simular problem, the way i fixed it was put some injector cleaner in the tank, drive it for a bit, find a nice piece of road, revved it up and drop the clutch, cleans those bastards out REAL good....

Its weird...my check engine light will be on, the tach wont work (on dash and on AFC) and then i turn it off and back on and it works. one time it happend and i wiggeled the AFM harness and it fixed it. im confused...

yea that **** used to happen to me sometimes, but then I replaced the computer with MT and it hasnt happend since. Check your cas, try to move the magnets closer. And also check your spark plugs and wires.

The CEL may be for the trailing coil system, then. Like somebody else said, it sounds like a bad injector, too...

How's your rear rotor housing ground? The ECU may not be seeing it good...
