Car starting and stopping after 5 sec...

Lately after trying to fix my horn in the steering column Ive been having trouble keeping my car started. When I go to work I start the little sucker up and she sounds fine but then I hear a "click" from the ignition it seems, and then it slowly turns itself off! It makes the dieing sound like when you turn your car off but this is just weird. So Im wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem. Im also wondering if this is a fuel problem. Its just weird after about 5 attempts to start, its stays idled and I can go. Any input appreciated.

probably not the fuel pump. i would start with the alternator (autozone checks them) and work my way from there on to the starter/ ignition.

ok thanks, now im wondering if there is a flooding problem also. When I keep trying to start the car it smells thick with fuel or so I think, but its just weird that it would start, run for 5-10 sec, then shut itself off

Can anyone tell me some simple steps to get to the PD on a turbo? Like what I need to take off only. I would be very thankful. -Evan

You can take a bright light and look under the UIM. Generally if the pd or a rail is leaking fuel will puddle where the LIM meets the rotor housing. No need to take anything off.

I just realized it cant be my PD... If my PD is malfunctional, it will not cause the car to die after a few seconds. Its like the fuel flow is not correct on start-up. It seems to be a flooding problem but are these the right symtoms?

Ok im gunna stop posting on this thread unless there are some questions.

This is what I figured: On http://www.iluvmyrx7.com, they state:

"Try to start the ca. With the AFM unplugged the car should start and die regardless of throttle applied."

This is the symptom I was having. I did mess with my AFM and some connectors got unplugged (the thing is more complex then I thought) So I assume that this was turning off my car.

The only thing thats got my goat is the car is fine during the day when it warms up. Its faulty only on cold starts.

my 2 cents....to myself.
