Car stalls off acceleration.

I have an 86 NA with an S5 motor in it. The motor was from an automatic car if it makes any difference.

The car idles rough when you first start it but the problem goes away once it has warmed up a little and it will idle fine.

However, if I give it a moderate amount of gas and then let off, it will stall as soon as the RPM’s drop.

What could this be?

Thanks,
Jason

That sounds more for a bad sensor, check your computer codes.

does it take a little bit before it stalls? Or does the RPMs drop intensively and stalls all together? If you let off the throttle, and not hold in the clutch, then yeah.... it's gonna stall.

Sorry.. I just like to know more of what else is happening before it the actual "stalling" takes place.

Sorry to steal the thread. But right now my car has a little idling problems. It idles well but when I come to a stop in gear with the clutch in it just dies =/. Or if I am driving and just bring the shifter to nuetral and no gas it wants to die also. I have to put it in nuetral give it a tiny gas then bring it to a stop...then put it back in gear so it wont die.

I am going to be replacing the o2sensor... could that be why maybe?

Also I am pretty sure my only cat left is cloged up since there is no airpump anymore...Would that cause that?

And then there is a nice exhaust leak after the turbo that goes to the main cat, which i have the gasket to fix it, just need to get to the shop and have it fixed.

Would those cause it? or is it something else like injectors or vac leaks"

How about the dashpot system?? For Eye

I am baseing this on a 87 supra since i didn't get my fc yet. Alright IF and only IF you have a dash pot system than the dashpot system might need adjecting. A dashpot system or thing is use to hold a certin rpm at decelration so your throttle wont just slam shut causing your car to stall. The dashpot is link somewhere to your throttle link and it look like this vacume thing with a stoper at the end. I know is hard to imagin but it look like a vacume advance device with a vacume hose hook up to it. And again i am not sure if the fc has that system but most car at that era has it. As for HUSE check you idle control valve or idle control system. Again i don't have my fc yet but i am sure most car in the world has a idle control system. And if any one feel that i am wrong on any thing please tell me i am just trying to learn

Sounds like a good explanation to me. You can test his theory by starting your car, opening the hood, and manually opening the throttle. Open the throttle and then let it out suddenly. If it stalls, look to the little bowl shaped thing next to the throttle linkage. When it is idling, push on lever in the center and verify that it *slowly* comes back out. If it comes back quickly, dashpot needs adjustment.

I had been driving for god knows how long with my dashpot not even touching the throttle linkage and I did not have this problem.

I did finally adjust the dashpot a week ago.

I am certain that his problem is elsewhere. Vac leak comes to mind...

Alright...well thanks for the information. I am getting my exhaust fixed tomorrow, so we will see what happens there. Icemark mentioned it sounds like my BAC is dirty so I will clean that too this weekend. And then we will proceed to leaks and such. Maybe just replacing all the vac lines. But I will let you all know after this weekend what is going on

I pulled the dashpot completly off my TII, and I don't have this problem. Sounds like a vac leak. I had this same problem because of a cracked TID, when I did the TID mod it got ALOT better. Your N/a doesn't have a TID, but check all the intake pipe after the AFM, and check for any vac leaks.
