car sounds like my girlfriend
OK, so latly i've been noticing that my car is whining at me.
Like have you ever heard a supercharger? the whine it makes at idle?
Well, i am getting that ALL THE TIME. i have no clue what it could be, i havnt changed anything in a few weeks... and another thing. my transmission. it whisles at me.. but only intermitantly. like 1 day it will do it, the other day it wont wistle. any idea what would cause this? i thought bearings at first, but than it would be all the time.
Thanks guys

no it's definatly coming from the front of the car. sounds definatly like belts (in my case belt) wait.. doesnt the water pump make a noise when it's about to go bad?? i have a brand new belt on there.. and i set it pretty well. supposedly if you grab the belt with your thumb and index finger and turn it... it's not suppose to turn all the way around. you guys know what i'm talking about?
Anyway, i dunno what the hell the sound is. just started.
the clutch and everything else are fairly new (under 5k )
any other idea's what it could be?

My girlfriend stops whining when I press in her clutch. . No, wait... I don't have a girlfriend, I forgot. . Wanna know a great reason why cars are so much better than girls? It's so much easier to perform weight reduction on a car....
Congratulations to myself for another useless post.

it's not really a belt 'squeel' i've heard those before. this is almost like a WHINE... almost like there's a supercharger under my hood. it's a very distinctive noise. and increase's with engine rpms very strange
What are signs of water pump failure. besides the obvious leak. will they make noise?
My water pump has about 30,000 since i replaced it last. and hasnt given me trouble yet..
thanks guys.

I can't say for sure that's the sound of a dying pump, but I'd like to know: I'm on the original water pump, and for the last 10,000 miles it has rattled like quarters in a tin can. It hasn't leaked, but I fear it is dying.
If the noise is all the time, take the belts off, and start the car. (don't let it run for a long time!) If without the belt, the noise is still there, you know it's not the pump or the alternator. If the noise dissapears, then spin the pump to see if it makes noise. If not, try the alternator.
You might want to check the Fan Clutch too.....

--- E-Fan. it was one of the first things i replaced when i got the car.
But thanks for the help, i'll try it out with the belts off ... i wont run it for more than 20-30 seconds, just so i can "listen"
p.s. 20-30 seconds without waterpump moving shouldnt over heat it right? lol, damn i would hope not..
again thanks

Two things: First there is a whine coming from my transmission when the car is cold which I am assuming to be the T/O bearing since when I engage the clutch, the sound goes away. Second thing is I just put new belts on my Accord and they whine like a supercharger.
I have no clue why they do this and I don't really care one way or the other, but it just seems like similar problems that you are having.

your girlfriend is a whining 'tranny?' (transexual?) hyuk hyuk hyuk
if it makes clunking/light grinding sounds intermittantly when the clutch is engaged (foot off of clutch) and whining...it may be a sign of bad bearings in the transmission-- time for a rebuild. Usually the telltale sign will be if it makes those sounds in all gears except for 4th. That is worstcase scenario though...

Heard similar noise
Today while pulling the actuators, I noticed a similar noise comming from just under the air filter.
Try this start your car, open hood, remove air filter, then raise rpm's by pushing on the throtle cable.
Is this your noise? It sounds like sucking air. The higher the RPM's the louder the noise.
What's up Markus!
Actuators are frozen soild. Sucks! Removed all that emmissions crap today. It was super easy.

Could be the T/O bearing.

I have had the car for a year and 2 months - and it's been doing it roughly since I got it.

Now.. for a silly tid-bit question....
How do you figure? How can I check up close? How much does it cost to get a new one? And.. how does the clutch noise, make the course of action with a worn or old throw out bearing?
I guess I really am not understand - I'm still learning! =/
