Mileage on engine? I'm thinking oil control rings as well.

could also be the turbo but probably not likely unless you have the boost cranked up and the turbo is old and tired.

yeah I thought it could possibly be the turbo, but really not sure.
is there a way to distinguish between oil control rings and tired turbo?

usually if its the turbo, you would see oil in the intake system from oil leaking into the compressor side.

not always, the hot side can also leak oil.

there is no easy way to tell what is causing it if it is only burning oil at high RPMs and load. typically you can only distinguish it by seeing if there is excessive oil in the intake, if not then you have to remove the turbo and look for oil at the manifold or after the turbo.

20 years or 130k miles, your oil seals are probably quite due to be replaced..
