Smell it. If it's sweet it's probably anti freeze, I'm assuming you know what burnt oil smells like so you should be able to tell the difference. If it's anti freeze the most likely culprits are either your coolant temp sender, or the heater control hose on that side of the engine. If it's oil I'd say it was most likely the filter, oil pressure sender or the oil cooler lines farther below.

Hmm I had the problem of smoke venting from under the hood not long ago, however the problem was my rear extension-housing seal had gone and tranny fluid was leaking on my exhaust

It's so true!
Taking stuff from my parts car, which was a daily driver for someone that knew nothing about rotaries, parts have oil and dirt built up on them... clean them off and the metal is nice.
Replacing parts on the car I'm actually using... parts are clean... and rusted. heh

Look for any burn marks on your exhaust perhaps.. Does the smoke come out just between the firewall and the engine? or really directly from oil filter area? How tight is the filter?

Tighten the filter, if that stops it... hahaahahahhah.
If not, wait until the engine cools down enough to stop burning the oil.
Then look at the oil cooler line that runs to the back of the engine, check it for leaks.
This is what it looks like, after you reinstall it. It's hiding... but that copper washer you see is where it bolts into the engine.
Yours is probably going to look like a big gob of black gunk. If you go straight down from the oil filter to the bottom of the engine though, you should spot it since it's the only metal pipe in that area.
