Car Smokes
Whenever i either start my car or if i take up the rpms to 5-7k then a big cloud of white smoke comes out. The smoke isnt that bad when i start it. Its an NA w/97,000 miles on it. I use 10-30, should i be useing something thicker like 20-50. One person told me that my apex seals are going bad?? Any suggestions?

I think the 20-50w oil will make the smoke worse, at least it did in my case but that was on a '79 GS. I was told to go to a lighter oil which did minimize it, if I kept it under 4-5k rpm shifts I had no smoke.

Smell the smoke... if it smells sweet... coolant leak.. teardown and rebuild.
Do a search for the "bubbles" in the radiator check...
If your car starts getting hard to start after you shut it off and it sits for 15 minutes or so... coolant leak, the coolant is being sucked into the rotor housings as they cool.
Could be the oil rings as well.
If your apex seals are going, its gonna start to idle like crap (some describe it as lumpy)
Engine rebuild kits cost 550 bucks or 850 depending on what you get with it...
HOWEVER.. if you blow the motor and run an apex seal around the housing before it exits through the exhaust port... york looking at 475 bucks PER housing..
Moral... I think you know its time for a rebuild... better sooner that later....
If you have just a coolant leak, most likely, the internals will still be usable.. it you let it go to long and overheat it... well....

mine does the same thing, but only once in a while and it smells like oil. i know these cars eat oil. But it just pisses me off to look like one of those people billowing out smoke driving down the road. mine only has 150k on it, from an old lady so never been pushed. could it be seals?

I'm not all that familiar with the seals for the 13b, anyone want to let me in on what corner seals are. and how easy or how much of a pain the are to replace. Also how i can find out if that's what's causing the smoke.
