car shaking
i've been looking for a t2 for a long time now I found one in SF. Since I've been working, I told my dad to go check out the car for me. Good ol dad went down to the dealership that has an 88 t2 for sale and asked to check it out and of course the owner lets him.
ok straight to the question, when the car was idling, and my dad turned on the a/c and the car started to shake, started to shake a little more violently than it should. He described it as "it felt like it was going to die out." I'm guessing when you leave your car in gear and come to a stop.
Also the dealer was being a little shady and acting a little fishy, he refused to let my father drive so he let him ride in it. During the ride around the block, my dad tried to turn on the a/c and the heater to feel if there was a significant loss in power and the dealer immediately turned the a/c and heater off.
My dad asked the dealer about the shaking due to the a/c and he replied with "Turning on the a/c will make you lose 30% of your horsepower" Yea... right. So I guess another question should be if its smart to buy this t2 or should i just keep looking.
Thanks

If it's cheap enough and you don't mind spending some time and possibly more $$$ on it, then go for it. It's all up to you though and how much you want to get involved with diagnosing it to fix the potential problem. Aside from the a/c problem, how was the car running? Strong, sluggish, rough or high idle, cool/hot, bumpy, etc. There's just too much to assess other than just an "a/c making car run rough should I buy it" proposition.

The asking price is $3900. I mean I will be spending about all I have saved up. So initially I wont be having any extra money to spend on the car but I'm really just looking for an idea of what type of problem this might be. I dont want to end up like a friend of mine. He bought an 88T2 and it ran for maybe a month or so and is now sitting at Rick's Rotary ready for a rebuild.
The car felt fine, did not feel sluggish but not too strong. The idle was at 750 or so.
