simple as this, i parked the rex for about a month or so. now it has some odd problems:
- brake booster no longer works
- having cooling problems, not overheating. air is getting into the system it seems. had the system flushed and pressure tested. no leaks were found and no white smoke out the pipe. car is still getting 23mpg. and can go about 300 miles before needing water.



the car is a 86 n/a. i suspect the water pump to be part of the problem (new mazda thermostat) new coolant.

You can go 300 miles without needing water? I can go 3000. Sounds like a leak or it's getting boiled off. Bring it up to temp. and check for any weeping near the water pump and all the hoses.

 

check your rad caps if you cannot find a leak else where

 

Check the weep hole.

 

cap is new (from dealership also), water pump is still the orginal, 165k on it. it also weaps (makes odd noise). i will replace it as soon as i got some cash. should i go buy a cheap one at advance auto or should i go all out with a mazda one?
