Car Radiator fan on, car beeping!

Well i havent drove my 87 gxl for a week. Its just been sitting in my yard.

ON previous ocassions i go outside and my car is beeping. So i didnt think much of it. I fixed the issue with the powersteering.

Well i sat in my car and helped it idle , cuz it wont idle for some reason (when its cold), once it warms up for a lil its good on its own.

I went to turn on the car, and when i put the key in and turned it the radiator fan came on. Is my sensor on top of the thermostat housing going?.

SO i reved my car to 2.5k for 30 seconds and brought it down slowly. then she idled at 700-800 rpm.

Then all of a sudden the car starts beeping. One consecutive beep.

Beep Pause Beep Pause etc...

whats up?

I keep hearing a beep beep beep
Probably the power steering computer telling you there is a problem with the system. The number of beeps before pausing will indicate the problem.
1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the beep sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.

No we already discussed this. I fixed that problem icemark. I fixed the powersteering issue.

it was beeping way back when cuz i didnt have a speedo cable so the Powersteering wasnt getting the signal so it would beep.

I fixed that and it went away. been months without a problem. now my radiator fan comes on, here and there even when the car wasnt in use. And i have that beeping that comes on. If i shut off the car and turn it back on, the beep doesnt come back.

When the powesteering was the issue, i could do that all day and it would still come back.

So i dont think its related to the powersteering this time =)

When i begin to drive, i hear a loud CLUNK noise coming from the bottom of the transmission. NOTE: Only when i first take off in first gear, and not all the time, but more often than i would hope

To be honest (Dont know if this is possible). It sounds as if the speedo cable is so far into the tranny case that when i take off in first gear it taps it. is that even possible to pus the cable so far up there?

Can that give an improper speed signal?

The clunk could be from a bad front differential mount.

So is the power steering computer beeping??? Or is this a buzzer or the CPU???

This is a coupe right???

The Auxillary fan coming on when the key is turned to ON means one of two things. Either you blew the fuse or the single green/black wire on top of the temp switch on the filler housing has come off.

When the (blank) fuse blows, a relay relaxes which in turn makes a set of contacts and the fan motor runs. I forget the fuse name. Its in the FSM schematics under the FAN schematic. At least on a series four it is. I've mentioned this fuse in past comments on the *auxillary fan*. Might search.

Thanks for the info. I have a question, if the fuse is blown then wouldnt the fan always be on when i turn on the car. IT shuts off after a few minutes of the car being on. ANd when i go to start the car its not always on, jsut sometimes.

I checked the sensor ontop of the thermostat housing and when i remove it , it does go on as its suppose to. Then i put it back and it goes off.

So maybe i have some loose wires. Ill check it out and see whats up.

Can this be attributed to the beeps i heard coming from my car. I know its not from P/s cuz i fixed that a while back thanks to Icemark

Nope, not a blown fuse if it works sometimes and not others.

yep found the problem. the wire going to the sensor broke off. So i spliced it and used electrical tape to connect it to the senor.

Now does the fan is off. I guess ill fix it later the right way. For now its good
