car motor messed up or something?

whats wrong with my car it idles good sitting i turn on the lights and it dies and when i am driving it and i stop at lights it dies does anyone know whats wrong with it

it is a brand new battery but i might have to check the alternator

its the alt, mine is shitting on me and it barely idles and the lights get dim, rev it up and the lights are bright ect..
