Hi there i am thinking of buying either of these machine.
* 1992 Skyline R32 GTS25 ($13k)
* 1987 RX7 Gen II FC Turbo with a FD engine in it. ($11K)
Country : Australia

Which is more worth it?

My worries are
* Selling off later. Cos the 1987 FC might be too old then.
* Reliablility of the FC.

Wrong kind of cars to be worried about resale. Especially a swapped turbo rotory.

Do you know anything about the rotary engine? What kind of tech support in your area is there for either car?

Those are the more important things to take into consideration.

Well, as I come from Australia , I can tell you that there are a LOT of knowledgeable rotary mechanics (depends what state you're in though). I think the RX-7 would be a better buy (but not having been there for 5 years, not sure what the resale values would be).

Getting an FD is just unrealistic Down Under, unless you have lots of cash (New, they were selling close to AUS$100,000 )

Personally, I would get a Nissan GT-R... but only if I won the lottery.

I think I might go with the FC just because it has an FD engine in it. That is if the swap was done right at least.

Sorry, I don't think the FD completely outclasses the R32. There are both great cars and very close in performance ability. I say get the R32. Too bad that the cheapest R32 on ex is 15k more than it is in Australia.

Ya but this isn't an FD-its an FC with an FD engine swap. Wonder if it was originally a TII or NA. If S4 NA it has to be pretty light right?

I don't think our US friends realise the GTS25 is a 2.5L non-turbo and is much, much slower than any FC Turbo, let alone one with an FD engine in it. This question isn't about what they're worth or what their resale value will be. It's whether you want to go fast or not...
If you do want a fast, affordable Skyline, look for an R32 GTSt (2.0L turbo) which is more than a match for an FC (unfortunately). It'll set you back a lot more than the FC though.

Sorry but I just can't let this slide. A Skyline R32 GTSt is no match for a FC... My car has never never been beaten by a RB20. And As I always say the Skyline is a sedan and not a sports car. Granted its a sporty sedan but it hasn't got **** on a FC.

One of the Members of the TSCC has a SLOWLINE eh he skyline with a aftermarket turbine ( TD-05) and a FCON full muffler boosting 1Kilo and he got out run by a CIVIC. This is commonplace.

The RB25 is a strong engine much better heads and such but the NA version hahaha never in a million years catch a FC Also the NA version dosen't come in wide body (Type M) and just look sick.

I would get the FC with a FD engine. Actually I would find a FC With a Blown engine buy it cheap and rebuild the engine with FD internals and a good port. This is reliable and with a High flow turbine or nice T04 series turbine will smoke the ill funcioning twins of the FD.

Before you go off on a pointless tangent about modified cars, I'm comparing stock for stock. The Skyline in your example got beaten because the owner spent more money on it, not because a Civic is better than a Skyline.
You're talking about a car that is basically a whole generation newer. The engine has more power and torque, it's electronics are far better, it's suspension design is superior, it's got bigger brakes, etc. I didn't mean it's a million times better than an FC, but most aspects of its design are incrementally better. And yes I've spent plenty of time behind the wheel of one, so I can compare.
I'd much rather have an FC than a GTSt, but I'm not blinded by my affection for the RX-7 to ignore basic engineering facts. Also the whole "sports sedan" vs. "sports car" debate is silly. What's the difference? Number of doors? The shape? It's all just marketing BS.
BTW, I forgot to mention in my first post, if it were my choice I'd get the FC!

the R32 Skyline isn't turbocharged(unless you forgot to write GTS-25T).

I've seen skyline's modded heavily, and they STILL get beat by my old FC.

Really? A 2-door R32 GTSt (2.0L turbo, RWD) 5-spd weighs 1320kg. A S5 RX-7 Turbo 5-spd weighs 1324kg...
The GT-R is heavy (R32 1480kg), but it's also 4WD and a lot more powerful.
