Smile Car Hasn't Been Moved in 5+ Years - Want to move it safely

Hey Ya'll!

I just acquired a '88 Convertible.. needless to say I'm completely new to the rotary world-- so this forum is absolutely overwhelming.

I started her up for the first time the keys been turned over in 5+ years. She's been stored in a machine shed primed/blocked/taped ready for paint, but the owner got bored with it-- to many projects. I had to pump the gas a little (probably a given) and I just let her run, started right up and smoked like crazy (but I wasn't surprised by that), didn't engage the transmission at all. I still keep forgetting to check the mileage though :/.

Is there anything in particular I should keep my eye out - or - prep before I drive this thing out of the shed to head back down to the shop?

I would be more worried about starting the car then moving it. Did you just turn the key without doing anything or did you replace all fluids before starting it?

www.aaroncake.net => "RX-7" has a guide to bring RX-7s out of storage.

Ya you probably did a little damage starting it up like that without taking the right steps first. Hopefully nothing serious. Do it right before you do it again.

Thanks for the site. Looks like I'm doing everything right. The only thing I didn't do is lube the combustion chambers.

Oh, and of course I replaced fluids. I'm not totally incompetent. Just wasn't sure if there was something I could miss in a rotary engine.

haha-very soon i'll start a project thread. this weekend i'm going to reassemble it just to be sure there are no surprises when its painted. I figure some extra (almost un-needed) work now will be better than pain later on lol.

That is KEY! Surface rust would have formed on all the surfaces. That rust has just been scraped off and ran like sandpaper around the inside of the engine.
