Car Has Sat For 4 Years
Car Has Sat For 4 Years
l just sold my 87 Tll cheap so l can buy a 88 Tll my problem is the car lm buying has sat for 4 years with out being started, the car has 66000 miles lm buying it from the first owner She(thats right female owned) lost the keys after she bought her next car(1990 zr1 vette) and its been sitting ever since. Is their anything l should do before l start it (like lube the rotors atf?) l plan on changing the oil, plugs, and gear oil. Thanks for any help TEDMAN
Change ALL fluids in teh car. Be REALLY easy on it for the first month or so of running. No redline runs for a little while. Give all the seals inside time to seat back how they should, they could be carbon stuck just a tad bit. Ive seen engines that sat a LONG time and were started up and ran hard die within a week, myh theory is that the seals get partially sticky until they're broken in/loosened up a bit after having sat so long, and too much stress on them can break them :-(
Otherwise, good luck!

yeah, i agree w/ what hypntyz said
something to think about though, i tried to start an 87TII after it sat for at least a year. i put fluids in it and it took way too much coolant...
it turned over but the front rotor water seal got dry rotted after sitting so long, it ran fine when it was parked, but after sitting for so long coolant filled the front chamber and the motor was gone
