Car Dying after 10 minutes--1 of 2 culprits? (long)

This is from a friend of mine just helping him out..here is the link: http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...?threadid=6305

Hey everyone-
I have been slowly been getting my 10th AE back up to speed after a "bad" engine install. For the past 7 months I have been fixing mistakes made by the mechanic. The car still hasn't been driven, just started. My latest project was replacing the electrical wiring harness(the HUGE one that goes under the dash and into the driver's side--it also runs the coils--I had a high current draw in the wiring, hence the replacement). I got that done this week. The battery was fully charged overnight and put in.

I went out to start the car. It cranked VERY slowly and I needed a jump start. It immediatly fired up after that. It ran fine for about 10 minutes and idled at 1300 RPMS (the BAC is set high right now). It had a coolant leak so I had to shut it off.

I fixed the leak today and started it back up again. I ran GREAT again. I drove around our parking lot for a little bit w/o a hitch. Then after about 10 minutes or so, the RPM's went down from 1300 RPMs and it started to die. I could save it by pressing on the gas and it would go back up to around 1000 RPMS. It did this a couple of times untit it died completely. I didn't bother trying to start it since the battery barley even had enough juice to roll the windows up.

I took the battery and alternator up to be tested. The alternator checked out just fine but the battery failed badly. It only showed about 250-440 cranking amps out of 1000.

Could these be the problems---
1. Battery--It's a few years old and it's been charged MANY MANY MANY times over the past few months. It's been charged SO MANY times because the car would sit for a while while I worked on it from time to time. I knew it was bad anyhow.
I know the alternator is supposed to keep the power going, but could the battery be just THAT bad that the car would die? I thought the car was supposed to run even with the battery disconnected.

2. The main cat clogging--I removed the smog equipment during the engine install. Once the car was running I would just take it up to the exhaust shop and have it removed. HOWEVER, I haven't been able to make it up there. In the meantime, the cat has collected it's share of oil (my mechanic ruined my turbo oil seals..don't ask..I have a newer turbo now), coolant (my previous engine blew it's water seals and dumped A LOT of water into the exhaust), and fuel (the mechanic miswired my new 720 injectors so they dumped way to much fuel into the exhaust).
Could the cat be THAT clogged?? So the car would die after about 10 minutes??

Here are my mods to help out---
New streetport, 3mm seals engine
Downpipe, Apexi Dual N1, Bonez supercat, no smog stuff
Bonez Intake
720cc Primary and secondary injectors, S-AFC (I "think" is calibrated right, but I can't get it tuned in until the engine is broken in...ugh)

Any ideas?? It would be a miracle if it were just the battery, but could it be that simple??? I am thinking not for some reason....

Thanks for the help!

if the cat is clogged up and it's still in your car, then that's probably the cause of stalling...
