I blocked all of the vac lines off and got it to start for a few seconds. Then it exploded in my driveway. First engine fire in an rx7 yet.

Yeah. lol. It burnt my arm and my hand when I was trying to put it out. I'm just glad it didn't spread. The body is still good, but everything in the engine compartment is destroyed. Guess I'll do that t2 swap thing.

simi bringing this thread back from the dead but im having this exact same problem. havent changed anything on my car recently. bone stock NA with an intake. has spark, just replaced the maf and still having the same problem. starts normally then is immediately cut off by something.

i can unplug the maf and start the car, then plug it back in and it runs fine MOST of the time????

Try jumpering the fuel check connector. Plus next time the car does not want to start check the Brown/White wire at the Pressure Sensor w/key to on and it should read about 5 volts. If it's really low then one of the engine sensors is likely shorting out this voltage (might be the AFM).

And stay away from rebuilt AFM's as they are notoriously known for being a poor replacement part.

okay so i jumpered the fuel check and the car is still having the same problem. it has started a few times normally since i did it but overall same issue

i tested the pressure sensor plug.

white/brown wire to the brown/black is about 4.9v

white/brown to green/yellow is about 2.5v

A vacuum leak can also contribute to the engine shutting off immediately after start. And you can also have a fuel issue.

I when through the engine with the brake cleaner and couldn't find and leaks and when the engine dies its super abrupt not like the normal sputter and die from a vacuum leak. Im leaning more towards fuel. What's the next thing I could check?

Are you sure you jumpered the fuel check connector properly? You can do the very same thing at the Circuit Opening Relay by jumpering the bottom two wires the plug. One wire solid Black and the other is Brown. Also, the Pressure Sensor is not repsonsible for the car not starting. And are you sure the primary injectors are operable?

Where did you get the new MAF and how do you know that it's functional?

Also you could try swapping ecu.

correct? once i get the car started it runs perfectly fine so im guessing any injector problem would be present 24/7. i have been getting better luck starting it with the fuel check jumpered lately

Can you resummarize your problem. Does the car now start and run fine some of the times but at other times it just doesn't start? And when does the car start? Hot engine or cold engine or both. And when does it not start? Hot, cold or either. Have you checked compression? Have you used the S5 deflooding procedure by pressing fully down on the gas pedal when starting? Have you checked your spark plugs? Have you had the fuel injectors serviced?

okay currently im running with the fuel check jumped. normally right now, ill crank it and itll start and instantly die once or twice, then itll start and run competely normal. no CEL. the problem usually occurs on cold starts. i know its not flooding ive had the car for 4 years and ive gotten pretty good at deflooding. fuel injectors havent been serviced at least by me.

i will be checking the spark plugs when i have the time and ill report back

Have you tried jumpering the fuel pump directly to a 12v source and grounding it to the body?

You should try it anyways. If you jump the fuel pump, you eliminate that problem completely.

Something could be shutting it off as soon as the car starts.

And check the plugs man. **** takes like 10 minutes.

checked plugs. theyre a little blackened and had a small amount of oil on the threads but aside from that seemed ok. i dont believe them to be the cause of the problem
