Car bucks between 1k and 3k

Everything in my rebuild project is going good but there seems to be a problem now,

the car is idling fine at 1k, when I hold the gas pedal between 1k and 3k it bounces up and down.

Anything pass 3k it fine. I've checked timing and its good too. Anyone got any ideas?

Also my A/F gauge is reading rich all the way from start up to warm up, when pedaling it, it goes lean then to rich again. Any ideas?

Cheers
Jack

From what I've heard, A/F gauges aren't very accurate while conditions are changing, like quick accelerations or gear shifting. I could be wrong. When you try to accelerate, does it take the car longer than usually to speed and get past 3k or is it just a tach problem?

Yeah a/f aint that accurate but from what i've read it shouldnt hold a reading when idling and the meter only goes up when pedaling.

It accelerates no problem, its when hold the pedal between the 1k and 3k, the engine decelerates itself and goes, eventually hitting the 1k mark. Yeah kinda strange.

Im starting to think that my cats are clogged.

thanks for the help
