Car almost dies at 4000+rpms

I was driving down the road today on my way home from school. Then out of nowhere i had a huge backfire and the car lost all acceleration until i was at 1500rpm. so i pulled off the road to see what the issue was and every thing looked good.

Now when i step on the gas from an idle the car has a weird sound and will rev to about 5500rpms and then just stop revving until i let off the gas. When driving you cant get over 4000rpms and if it does it will lose power and backfire really loud. then if i shift to the next gear it goes fine again until 4000rpms again. Other times it will only rev to about 2500rpm and stop revving until it gets to about 1000rpms and then it bounces like that.

It has done this once before but the problem just disappeared after about 5 min.

Anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this?

Sorry for the long post too.

i think i just found part of the problem. The upper rad cap threads(part on the water neck) is apparently cracked and sprays coolant on my secondary injectors and TPS plug and the rest of the wiring back there. Any one know where i can get one of those cap fittings or even a block off to eliminate the second cap? I need something fairly cheap for now.

The plastic piece that the cap twists into is held on by two 10mm screws, and has an o-ring underneath to seal it. Mazdatrix sells them, and so would a dealership. You'll need to keep it there if you don't have another location to route the overflow line. But it sounds like you have an aftermarket radiator, so you may be able to get away with a homemade block off plate and o-ring or an S5 thermostat cover.

That is the exact part i need to find. The overflow comes off on the underneath of my radiator cap(the one on the radiator itself). So that isnt a problem. Will an S5 thermostat cover bolt directly up? If not i will just fab up a block off plate because i cant justify $45+ on a little piece of plastic.

I also discovered that it seems that my OMP linkage rod(rod that goes down from the throttle linkage) gets stuck down and i think this could be causing the problem because the coolant leak is very minor. I found this out when i went down the road after i cleaned my TPS and reset it. I got halway back up the road and the car died until it got down to 1000rpms then it would bounce when on the gas up to 2000rpms and then keep doing that. Got in the driveway and noticed the linkage was down. So I flipped it back up and and the car ran great again. Any ideas what might be causing this out of nowhere?

I also greased the ends and checked for anything it would catch on but everything checks out. Only other thing is its just sitting on the throttle linkage and nothing moves it by much. Anything i should check for or do?

Thanks for all the help i really need to get this sorted out because its my Daily driver right now.
