Car Alarm Installation Tips, Pointers, and Links

Hey guys, Let me just start by saying this is the best rx7 forum ever. So much useful information here!

Anyway I have an 87 GXL with a TII swap (TII PCM/Brain and engine), 5 speed. I am currently in the process of swapping my whole interior from an s5 and have everything out down to the metal. While my baby has it's dress down lol I thought I install a good alarm.

I am somewhat knowledgeable in wiring and know how to use a multi meter, but I have never installed an alarm before. I am buying a Viper 5906v Security + Remote start, with a SmartStart GPS module, and few accessories like back-up battery, and glass shatter sensor.

So basically I just wanted to know what I need to look out for during installation, do I just splice the alarm wires into factory car wires? Like I said I never done an alarm before so any tips or pointers are welcome. Also if anyone knows good wiring diagrams/wire color and location links for an 87 GXL, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Well for starters you'll probably want to add solenoids to the drivers side door and the rear hatch

Does your car have a factory alarm? If so you can reference some of the wires I mentioned above. Only difference with what I did is having to tap into the starter solenoid wires for the remote start and some sort of neutral safety switch since you have a 5 speed.

That being said, I'm very good at wiring at it took me probably 5-6 hours to install just the keyless entry part with the new lock solenoids. Granted I make everything very organized and solder/shrink every connection. Perfection takes time.

I had a remote start/alarm added to my wife's car and it was $300 for a good install job.

Search RX7 service manuals on google and you will find the documents you need

I am a professional installer for a living.

You'll need a 451m for the door lock actuator in the driver door. Also, the 5906 will come pre-programmed for manual trans out of the box. DO NOT reprogram it to automatic mode!

I bought Audiovox PROPDL25 kit for power door locks. Do I still need 451m?

And I kind of want to bypass the factory alarm. It never really worked in my 7. So Im probably going to have to splice at the pcm/brain.

Which brings another question, can I splice into pcm/brain?, cause I know some of them work on a 5 volt system (with all the sensors and stuff).

Brain is behind the glove box. Unplug it and install in that location. Nice and hidden from bad guys.

Most everything on the factory alarm you could use is ground switched.
