Question Car Alarm

Can someone explain how the standard car alarm works with the security button. How do you set it properly, what makes it go off, and how do you turn it off. Does it work well enough or should I buy and aftermakert alarm?
Thanks

You have to lock the door from inside manually. You'll hear a "beep". Then, close the door while holding up the door handle. The door will stay locked and the alarm will be on.

To turn it off, just put the key in the door and open it.

Oh and the alarm sucks.

The factory alarm is designed to arm (by locking all the doors from the inside, and holding the outside handle up while closing) and only protect against someone opening the doors or hatch/trunk and hood.

It will not protect against glass breakage or impact. So someone busting open the window and reaching in will not set it off.

To disarm the factory alarm, unlock the drivers door with the key (or any door on the 88 models).

The factory system is decent for a basic system, and easily augmented. It is no worse than the under $300 installed alarms from circuit city, best buy, or any other retailer.
